Park and walk over to the lighthouse. If it is windy, watch the wind surfers out in the channel. Let the kids climb around the big rocks out there. Interesting trails go back into the maritime forest. A hidden jewel of Charleston and Folly Beach. Spend some time out there. Relax.

It is located in a nature area so the walk was nice. On a great beach area. Shells to pick. Oh yeah, it's free to look.

We took a boat tour with Gresh Meggett to Morris Island and toured the island with views of the Morris Island lighthouse. Gresh pointed out oyster beds along the way and dolphins who joined us! On the island, we had the island to ourselves were we discovered aquatic life and a shipwrecked sailboat. Took great pictures of the lighthouse.

The walk to see this lighthouse is actually on the northeast end of Folly Beach. After crossing the bridge to Folly Beach, turn left on to East Ashley Avenue until it dead ends. We parked along the side of the road, and took the trail that starts beyond the gate. It is paved for about 1/2 mile and ends on a short sandy stretch that takes you over a hill to a great view of the lighthouse and the harbor. Completed in 1876, the lighthouse is not presently operational, and is completely surrounded by water. A citizen's group has formed to preserve and restore the lighthouse.
The view from the beach makes a great picture. It is not all that close to Charleston, but if you are visiting Folly Beach, it is a must see.

We parked about 1/2 mile away, and walked out to the beach to go see the lighthouse. Not all that impressive. The lighthouse is not not lit, and it's a ways off shore. You can see it, but you can't get close to it. Kind of a bummer.
