“The Mac delivers”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

Great meal and atmosphere. We had a party of 8 and the service was outstanding. The food was prepared well and everyone enjoyed their plate. Appetizers we shared were fabulous and tasty. It gets a bit noisy in there, but the food is worth it so speak up at your table. My bone in pork chop and vegs were outstanding. The wht choc cheese cake was amazing. I highly recommend this place.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

The chef is very talented . The ingredients were perfectly balanced with the chefs dishes . The gnudi was as light as could be and the sauce complimented the gnudi to perfection. We are going back again tonight Service at the bar was outstanding.

“Cheese Fries!”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

This is a nice, comfortable, friendly restaurant, with a wide array of offerings. We came away from our dinner happy and full, having still left much of our large portions on our plates. We couldn't resist ordering an appetizer of cheese french fries. It was huge and delicious and probably could have served as dinner itself. They were addictive.

“Innovative Menu = Perfect Meal”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Wow! What a great restaurant. Definitely make an rsvp because this place is always packed. We tried the veal sweetbread - don't be scared, try it. It was amazing, delicious and over the top good. The bone marrow bread pudding was like eating a delicious rich crispy piece of toast. The lamb ravioli was to die for - the lamb was braised tender perfection stuffed in a lighter than air ravioli. The brussel sprouts with bacon were loaded with crispy bacon and seared golden brown. Love this place. Can't wait to go back.

“Fine choice for a memorable meal in Charleston.”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Our Food:
Mac-hattan (Their terrific version of a Manhattan. A moreish experience.)
Huguet de Can Feixes, Penedes, Spain '12 (Glass) Perfectly suggested by our server Ross.
Kale Salad - well-dressed, flavorful, bountiful, beautiful. Surprising.
Brandade Fritters - light and just right. A nice portion and more than enough to share - although I didn't, of course.
Bone Marrow Bread Pudding - an unexpected dish. The texture was gossamer. The flavor sublime. I crave it as I write this. A wonderfully unprecedented creation.
Trigger Fish - one of the best dishes we had in Charleston. The best fish dish I had in Charleston.
Snapper - lovely and well-presented but sadly outshone by the Trigger Fish. Trigger Fish wins!
Banana Pretzel Bread Pudding - so well-conceived and beautifully-wrought. Delightful.
Butternut Cayenne Panna Cotta - perfect ending to a fine meal. A remarkable depth of flavor imparted by the squash and very, very well-judged seasoning.
Broadbent Malmsey Madeira - highly recommended for those who take madeira after a meal. Highly recommended for those who don't.

The food at The Macintosh is imaginative but restrained. Flights of fancy are indulged in but the gambits pay off handsomely. So many of these places over-reach and fail. We did not have one dish at the Macintosh that did not work or fail to satisfy. The highlight of the evening was our server Ross. You know the kind of guy: charming, self-possessed, easy, winsome. Attentive to your needs, concerned about your experience but never a boor, never boorish. Chatty but not garrulous, friendly but not obtrusive. The guy ought to run an academy that teaches others to do what he does. It is a rare performance and one that is much appreciated. We did The Mac on our first night in Charleston (with 12 days to follow) and it was the sort of experience that set such a high benchmark it was seldom met elsewhere in the city. A few times perhaps but not like at The Macintosh. We highly recommend this place. Go in with sensible expectations and you'll have a great time!
