I have written before that my wife and I are really not Inn people. We thought that the French Quarter Inn, with all its high ratings, might be an exception, but that was not the case.
Comparing it to a big city luxury hotel is not fair, yet the prices and the ratings beg the comparison.
Breakfast is good for one day, but a repeat of the fairly limited fare, loses it's luster in day two and beyond.
No real restaurant on premises, no pool (not a biggie for us), a staff that is very friendly, yet in some cases unpolished ( girl serving at late afternoon wine and cheese speaks loudly enough for the whole floor to hear). I could go on, but as I said, the problem it seems is with us not with the Inn, judging by the ratio of excellent ratings it receives.
We won't go back, though the Inn has the best location in Charleston - I'm afraid the Charleston Place Hotel, especially with ongoing guest room upgrades, is much more our style.
