This is the first review I have written on TripAdvisor, although I have used TripAdvisor for advice many times. This was our first trip into Charleston and I reviewed many hotels before deciding on this one. So many of the previous reviews seem to get this hotel spot on (good and bad). First of all, I have seen complaints regarding the musty smell. Our initial room was on the 3rd floor, and within 1 minute of being in the room, we were back at the front desk asking for a different room. It was incredibly musty smelling and "turning on the AC" as the front desk suggested only seemed to make it worse, as the air coming out of the AC had a strong odor as well. We were given a room on the 5th floor in the "newer section" of the hotel, and while it wasn't perfect, it was SO much better than the initial room. Needless to say, that is not the way you want to start your vacation! The positives from this hotel start with the concierge, Kevin McQuade. He not only stayed beyond his normal work hours to give us A+ service, but suggested many things that were perfect for our family. Our plantation visit, Barrier Island Eco Tour, as well as neighborhoods and quaint alleys he suggested to see gave us a feel for the real Charleston. The hotel itself is withing walking distance to so many different attractions in all areas that it proved to be a wonderful home base. One more positive to note, is that we also had quick, friendly service from the bistro and bar areas. All in all, a good stay, just not great due to the room issues.

We booked a last minute trip to Charleston and decided to stay at this hotel based on the reviews submitted by others. We decided to book the trip without planning anything ahead of time and to leave the planning to the Kevin at the concierge as other reviewers suggested. All the reviews were spot on and our stay was fantastic thanks to Kevin! Kevin had all the information we needed for the weekend. He scheduled us a reservation at Hanks, walking tour with Tommy Dew, and even gave us a map he made himself on the special places within Charleston that you would not learn about at the visitor information centers around the city. Kevin even took us out for a special night time tour around the city showing us the most beautiful places! Thanks to Kevin we got to see everything we wanted in such a short period of time. Can't wait for our next trip back...we will be sure to stay here and have Kevin plan our weekend again!

Excellent hotel with very nice rooms and the usual excellent Courtyard lobby. But, the concierge, Kevin, makes the difference. Before you leave the hotel spend 20-30 minutes with him. He will give you the inside scoop on plantations to visit (or not), great out of the way restaurants and his amazing tour guide knowledge. Great local knowledge and wonderful advice.

My husband and I have had the good fortune to have visited Charleston 3 times in the past 5 years. It is one of our favorite cities to explore. We also have stayed at the Courtyard 2 times and this is now the only hotel we will book in this great town! The location is within walking distance to many parts of the city. The property is very well maintained. And the Concierge Kevin in priceless. On our first visit Kevin arranged a tour of the city with a wonderful guide Tommy Dew; made restaurant reservations at all the best restaurants and even asked for us to be seated at specific tables. On our last visit Kevin made some incredible suggestions for us to do since we had already seen a lot of Charleston. The first night he made dinner reservations at The Mackintosh, WONDERFUL! The next day he made arrangements for a car service to bring us to and from the parade at the Citadel, and again suggested another place for dinner 39 Rue St. Jean. But the most outstanding part of this visit was when Kevin suggested we rent a car and see the town of Beaufort - what a great idea - the town has such history and beauty; we had lunch at a cool place called The Wren - Kevin gave us a map and really exact directions - the best was he suggested on he way to Beaufort stopping at this magical place called The Old Sheldon Ruins...it is an old church destroyed in the Civil War -- the grounds are just special. We were back in Charleston for yet another special dinner, greeted upon our return by friendly hotel staff. We had a ball -- Thank you Kevin.

With many options to choose from while staying in the historic section of downtown Charleston I will definitely be choosing to stay at the Courtyard Marriott again. From the moment I checked in (Emily at the front desk was excellent, readily available with information and tips for navigating the City) everything was perfect. The hotel is kept immaculately clean and the patio pool was a beautiful thing to have during our sunny 80 degree stay. Having Starbucks coffee right downstairs in the lobby was a nice perk as well. Grant Hoskins, the general manager and who my party and I had the pleasure of speaking to doing our stay, does a wonderful job of keeping this elegant hotel in tip-top shape. We are already counting the days until our next Charleston stay!

Like many people who have written reviews on this hotel we had a great time here. The concierge is better than most 5 star hotels. We had a great 3 days here touring the historic district, visiting plantations, and even got advice on what to see in Savannah from the concierge.

Room Tip: There are 3 room locations: facing Calhourn St, facing Meeting St, overlooking the carpark. The Cal...

Stayed here for a long weekend in early April. The hotel is clean and fresh and relatively new. It's a standard updated Courtyard, so no surprises. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is located in the historic district next to Marion Square, near the college (walking distance) and only about a block away from King Street where you can find shops and restaurants - boutiques and chains. Would definitely stay again. Taxi from the airport is about $30-35 so you dont need a car if you are staying in town.
