“Totally lacking southern kindness and charm.”

The hotel is in a good location but parking is a problem. Even if you pay for hotel parking it fills up and you have to park in an unsecured church lot across the street, which was especially annoying with the intense rainfall, having to run across the street through the flooding. The front desk staff was not particularly friendly or knowledgeable. We asked if we could pay extra for a room upgrade and he said that it isn't possible since we didn't book the room directly through the hotel. As my husband and I are travel agents and travel much more than the average person, we know this not to be the case. He advised us to walk to the aquarium for something to do that night, and despite the rain, we walked the 10 minute walk only to find out the aquarium closed 1 hour before we even arrived to the hotel. The room was fine but the ac unit kept clicking on and off without the ability to have the fan run constantly. There are no city interest pamphlets in the lobby. You have to stand in line to get info on things to do from the concierge. In theory, this is great but the line was extremely long and after a 30 minute wait, we (and many others) just decided to leave and try to find the city tourist info center. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room. I didn't find the value in this hotel and we are very easy going and experienced world travelers. For the first time in all my reviews, I have a hard time finding anything positive to say and I would not recommend this hotel to others.

Thank you for taking the time to write a response on Trip Advisor. We take the feedback from our customers on the Travel Site very seriously as is evident by our 92% approval ranking. While parking is a challenge for all of the downtown properties, we do offer 85 spaces both covered and uncovered...the most of any of the hotels in the Historic District. Guest will also park in the drive in case of incliment weather. The overflow lot is not user friendly during one of our afternoon rain showers. We are very pround of Kevin, the lobby concierge. As his 'fame' has grown, he is in great demand. We are looking into other ways to get basic information about the city to our guest while maintaing the 'Concierge Experience' in place. The Front Desk must be knowledgeable and give out accurate information as they are the most immediate customer service representative we have. I do apologize for the misinformation. We will use this as a reminder to conduct daily training about events and places to go in Charleston. Again, thank you for the feedback.

The hotel is nice and in a decent location. Do not pass this hotel by - Concierge, Kevin McQuade, is AWESOME. He has menus to all restaurants and will hp you personalize your ENTIRE stay. We took the waking tour he recommended by Ed and the Eco doh on boat tour and lived them both. He also gave us GREAT restaurant recommendations. Kevin is passionate about his job and it definitely shows!!!!!!

Good location. The check in was great. Super friendly, we were given advise on restaurants, and directions to places we wanted to see. The room was very large. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. My only complaint was with the bathroom exhaust vent. It was COVERED with dust/lint. It was really gross, and with it being clogged, it obviously did not work, drenching the bathroom with steam! Other than that, it was fine. Although, I am a tea drinker, only packets of coffee were available in the room. I asked for a tea bag at the front desk when returning from dinner, and was given one, with an apology. Parking was onsite for $16. I would stay here again while in Charleston.

I've stayed at many Courtyards by Marriott over the years and I do like the redesign of the lobbies to give a more upscale feel. This one, at a great location within easy walking distance of virtually everything, has an even nicer lobby area. The rooms are very nice as well, ours on the top floor with a decent view towards the river. The real gem here as noted by many other reviewers is the concierge service, which is worthy of a Ritz Carlton. Elizabeth Fraser, the concierge we were lucky enough to have, made numerous dinner and tour recommendations and reservations, each of which was excellent. Being a very busy time in Charleston, during the Spoleto Festival, restaurants were at a premium, but she got us into most on very short notice. The walking tour, complete with a list of the best photo opportunities in the city with detailed instructions on how to get the best shot, was excellent. The restaurant recommendations even include the best rated menu items! Kevin, the creator of much of their concierge services (who we never met), deserves a huge amount of credit for the job he did creating much of these fine materials.

One issue we had was regarding parking. The hotel has a conveniently attached garage for $16 a day, which was great, but after returning for dinner one evening, the lot was full. After stopping in the lobby, we were instructed to park in the church lot across the street. While not terrible, it is not on-sight parking as advertised and I don't feel the same $16 fee should have been applied. When I attempted to address this with the front desk rep, he said sorry, it's a management decision. Poor customer service response with no resolution for an otherwise fine stay.

Just the right location for historic Charleston. The hotel is all you want for a visit to this wonderful city. Good rooms, clean and tidy. Beds that give you a good nights rest, very helpful and friendly staff. The free bus stops just at the side of the hotel. You can turn a corner and find plenty of shops. The market is only minutes away and very interesting to visit.

We were blown away by this hotel's location and how nice it was. Our room was clean, quiet and spacious. We also can't say enough about Kevin the concierge. He was able to get us a dinner reservation at Husk, which was fantastic, and he also recommended the best walking tour we had ever done. Overall it was a wonderful trip, and we look forward to coming back.

Other than an odd, funky smell in the room when the A/C was off, this is a nice property in a good location. The kitchen, wait, and front desk staff all shined during our stay.

To the maid staff: a cold, half-empty cup of coffee left all day is not a frappuccino wannabe, it's probably trash.

Who stole all the closet hangers before I checked in?

Bottled beer in the bar was upwardly priced - one and done on my thin paycheck.

Room was priced at ~ $160 / night. A bit high for what they delivered overall, but probably appropriate for the destination. Lots of good dining & nightlife nearby.

Would consider staying here if back in C-town again.
