“Great Hotel, Great Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed here for our first trip together to Charleston. We loved the hotel! It is in a perfect location to make the historic town of Charleston and its amenities easily accessible.
Do not let the rating of 3 stars (or 3.5 stars) or the Holiday Inn name mislead you. This should easily be a 4 star property. I was reluctant, because you never know what you will get with Holiday Inn properties, but this is a world apart from what I have seen before. Very elegant and well furnished, large lobby with very friendly and helpful staff. Housekeeping department did an excellent job. I seen them working very hard throughout the day and our room was well taken care of.
Lunch and Dinner meals offfered by the hotel restaurant where great and a good price for the product. I did not like the price point for the breakfast meal, so we choose to eat elsewhere after the first day. The wait staff and bartender that served us was very friendly and helpful.
The pool is small, but is located above the street level to give privacy. The pool furniture was first class. Very relaxing and plenty of area to sit and relax.
The rooms are also very well decorated and top notch. The bathroom was somewhat small, but efficient.
With the limited parking throughout the town, it is nice to have a city parking deck attached to the hotel. The parking was covered and allowed very easy access from our room to car.
I made our reservations online at hotwire and got the room for $115 a night (Sun-Wed). This is a great deal and value for the money. These rooms with the great location should sell for well over $250 a night!
From now on, every trip we take to Charleston, we will be staying at the Mills house.

We were informed of a great deal to The Mills House Inn and took it, having had wanted to stay at a B&B for this portion of our vacation. We were very glad to have booked The Mills House Inn! The bed was ultra comfortable, very soft, you feel like its hugging you!
Bathroom is very small, but the whole room is extremely clean. We stood in room 723.
The pool is beautiful, just one suggestion, please add more umbrellas over by the pool area during the hot August days! That was the only fault I found here, the need for more shade on a hot humid day, cannot complain about anything else! The bartenders during the day are very good! We were extremely impressed with how well they made drinks. We did not eat at the hotel, so we cannot comment there. The morning Java Shot is very good and again, great service!
Staying in the 7th floor gave you complimentary soda from the service areas by the elevators, which was a great plus!
We were very happy with our stay here and will definetely return to this hotel when back in Charleston, it is a great value with great prices and very good service. We found not one single employee that did not greet us, very well run!
Thank you for a great two day stay!

We deicided to stay here, because we had stayed here before, and the price was better than any of the other places we were considering. Still, at $200 per night, I found the rooms to be in need of some refurbishment. There wasn't sufficient light in the bathroom to even put on my contact lenses. The TV cabinet was dusty.
That said, it is an attractive property with a nice pool area and bar area. There is also a very nice courtyard off the bar where we had breakfast. It is centrally located, and there is a convenient parking garage attached to the hotel that is accessed by a walk-way.

Everything was clean, nicely decorated and open. The staff was warm, friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure to stay there and we would do it again. We were comfortable and within walking distance of everything we wanted to visit. The historic setting was very pleasant and this small town is a hidden treasure of South Carolina.

Able to walk to everything in historic district. Lobby was charming - better than you'd expect at a Holiday Inn. Rooms were fine, but you don't come to this part of town to stay in your hotel room.

Folks were very friendly at restaurants. A couple of the bars we visited had bartenders with a bit "too cool" attitude. I live in Toronto, so I don't need to travel if I wanted bartender attitude.

We enjoyed our stay at the Charles Mills House. You couldn't ask for a better location (within walking distance of everything you need to see in Charleston). The lobby is beautiful, antiques everywhere. The rooms were very nice. We did not try the restaurant during our stay. The pool was great and greatly appreciated during July in Charleston. Valet parking is definitely the way to go. Would stay here again with no hesitation.

The Mills House is an easy walk to all of the major Charleston attractions. The rooms are what you would expect from an historic hotel--slow elevators and small bathrooms but a lovely courtyard and common spaces. The restaurant has a surprisingly affordable breakfast menu which is refreshing. You can actually get a good breakfast for under $10. The fitness room is small with only 4 cardio machines and a multi purpose weight machine--it could be improved by a mats for sit ups, small selection of hand weights, and/or resistance bands. If you are a Priority Club Member you get 2 free drink tickets and an upgrade to the 7th floor--gets you water at turndown and access to free fountain drinks.
Biggest complaint is the SLOW internet. I would have gladly paid a fee to have functional access. At peak times (morning, early evening), it would take 15-20 minutes to connect. Unacceptable. The mattress in our room was very soft which could be a problem for some travelers over an extended stay.
