The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel

Had a great experience at this hotel. Came for restaurant week and just for a weekend getaway and decided on the Mills House because I used to work for Wyndham a long time ago. At first I was worried after seeing some of the reviews but maybe I'm not as picky? Anyway, a lot of people said renovations were an issue but they were in the tail end of it and it didn't effect us at all! Our room was on the 6th floor and newly renovated with a great view. We did get the room by the elevator and were worried about noise but actually it was very quiet. The room smelled new and you could see we were probably the one of the first people staying in this newly renovated room. We did do the valet service and the bellhop, Ryan was amazing and even got us some wine glasses since we had bought some wine for our stay. Yes, parking is expensive ($24 a day for valet parking but you can come and go as you please) but this is something that is pretty common in cities like this. But with the location, we never even needed our car for the two days we were there. Anyway, great room, good price and a great location. Minutes to restaurants and shops. We will be going to Charleston again and will stay here again!

Charleston is one of our favorite getaway destinations and we have been staying at The Mills House 3-4 times since 2011. Our last visit was in September 2013 when our family visited from overseas. The reasons we keep going back to The Mills House are their convenient location and their very reasonable room tariffs. Located on the quieter end of the busy Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, King Street (for shopping), City Market and various downtown attractions such as the Waterfront Park and the Rainbow Row etc. are all within 15-20 minutes on foot. The rooms are not very big and the views are nothing to shout about (unless you request for a sea view room on the high floor), but they are clean and comfortable enough for a good night's rest. My only little complaint is that the hotel staff, though efficient, did not usually come across as warm. The exception was the concierge staff, who always made us feel valued with their enthusiasm and helpfulness.

Having not ever traveled to Charleston, I was not sure what to expect of the area or the hotel. Upon arrival, I realized how beautiful the hotel is and what a great part of downtown it is located. The hotel is beautiful and clean. It has amazing decor including old antiques placed inside the hotel and lobby. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and well taken care of by the concierge. Our room was newly updated and beautiful. They are still in the middle of a remodel, and by the looks of the new upgrades, it will be even more beautiful. I realize that some people do not like the fact they are staying at a place with upgrades occurring, but it is well worth it, if only by proximity to the great history and surrounding restaurants alone. I had a wonderful time!
