Our experience was limited to one night at the Mills House, but overall we had a really good experience. Every staff member (front desk, bell staff, doormen) was helpful, extremely courteous, and knowledgeable. We needed a few things during our stay and the staff had the answers instantly. The biggest draw for us to this hotel was the location. We wanted to be close to the offerings of the Historic District and this certainly ticks that box. Obviously this is an old property that comes with all things historic hotels include (small bathrooms, thin walls, and small rooms). For what it is worth though, it does include the modern amenities like a decent TV and a strong free wireless signal that was fast enough to stream a movie. I would definitely recommend you consider this property when you are searching the area. There are tons of options, but for the price this is a great deal and it comes with a great location and staff!

Spent a weekend here in late November-very comfortable and great location and the front desk staff proactively sought to help us with the local area. Only watch out would be to avoid the second floor swimming pool facing rooms if you like a lie in-it gets noisy early on weekends! Overall a great hotel though.

This hotel was a little gem. The staff is wonderful, the location perfect and the rooms are charming, and all for a very reasonable AAA rate. The doormen/valets/bellmen were delightful and very accommodating, Especially John Alexander and Clarence.

Recently we visited Charleston, actually a revisit after many years. Last minute trip and great weather made this hotel a perfect place to stay. You feel some of the history of Charleston when you stay in this hotel.

Given this is a Holiday Inn, I figured the high cost was probably due to the excellent location (and it is that). My anxiety was heightened by some reviews that slammed the place. As it turns out, I couldn't have been more impress. The staff other reviewers complained about were no place to be found during my visit. They were friendly, accommodating and responsive to my requests for assistance. The room was just fine and the period furniture was a plus. The bathroom appeared recently re-done and I especially like the slate floor. Don't see many of them in a head. Based on one review, I checked my car for damage when it came out of valet parking. No issues. Kuddos to Holiday Inn. This is a great property.

I recently spent a long weekend at the Mills House and was impressed by the service and charm of the hotel. Our flight down to Charleston was considerably delayed and while checking in, the front desk clerk gave us two drink vouchers since we had a rough day of travel. Aside from this gesture, I found the staff to be very attentive and hospitable. The hotel is well situated, with the waterfront, shopping, and nightlife within easy walking distance (highly recommend the Charleston Grill). The building had a lot of nice ornate detail and was very charming. I enjoyed the decor and ambiance of the courtyard, bar / dining room, and the lobby area. The rooms themselves were reasonably updated, but didn't stand out. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again on my next trip down.

A little run down. Nickel and dime you. Coffee $2, newspaper $6. So so service. Bartender was friendly. A lot of great places within walking distance. Don't miss Hall's chophouse down the street ten blocks.
