“Beautiful Hotel, Fantastic Location.”
Reviewed August 22, 2011

Mills House in Charleston is a beautiful Hotel and well appointed. The location is superb as it is the closest high rated hotel to the Historic District. Everything is right there, especially the walks through the historic streets of Charleston. We had read some so-so reviews on this property but I can't see where these people are coming from. The moment you walk through the front doors, the lobby tells you that you have made the right choice. It is beautiful and spacious. The service was good, the room was fantastic, not that small at all. We had a King Bed unit and it was very comfortable. The period decor added a warm ambiance to the room. The Bathroom was well appointed. They have a nice rooftop pool, though a little crowed mid-afternoon. We had breakfast on two mornings in the Barbados room. The food was good and they price was reasonable. Very nice decor. Makes you feel you are somewhere special. All the great restaurants are close by. Went to 82 Queens and Poogans Porch, which are right across the street. You will not be disappointed in choosing the Mills House. It puts you in the "period mood" when visiting this wonderful city.

Room Tip: The higher floors (7th and up) have views of the city.

The hotel is located within walking distance of all of the major attractions in Charleston. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had reasonably priced desert and drinks at the bar. There is a parking garage attached to the hotel, though payment is extra.

We stayed at the Mills House for one night. It was excellent. We were able to get our room for $90 plus taxes through Priceline. Parking is $23 per night which includes valet service. The staff was professional and nice. Clarence, a bell hop, was extremely helpful and made us feel very welcomed.
The hotel is in the perfect location and we were able to walk to everything.
We will definitely stay here again during our next trip to Charleston.

This hotel is perfect! I'm a travel agent, so I was there to check out the area for destination weddings Great location, very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful decor.

Parking: Valet parking for $22 was the going rate. Public parking was $20, so for an extra $2 we didn't have to worry about parking.

Hotel/Rooms: Beautifully decorated, gives you the feel of history. Excellent location near the market and lots of restaurants. You can walk everywhere. Make sure you check out the Market across the street.

Restaurants: We didn't eat at the hotel, there were so many other choices. Fleet Landing was awesome over on the waterside. The best shrimp and grits I've ever had! There is a great brunch place right next to the hotel - Pooches Porch. Several famous people have eaten here and the best eggs Benedict!

This is a Holiday Inn, but definitely has the intimate B&B feeling and you would never know it was a Holiday Inn. i was really impressed.

Charleston is a walking city & the Mills House is perfectly located for visiting the Old Market, the Battery, historic homes and shops. Oh, and restaurants! Husk, just named Bon Appetit's #1 new restaurant in the county is right next door on Queen St, as are Poogan's Porch & 82 Queen. The hotel staff is polite & friendly, though neither concierge impressed me all that much. Because of the age of the hotel, the rooms are on the small size, but they are nicely decorated and the bedding is good. My one complaint is that there is no towel bar in the bathroom. Not sure what you are supposed to do with towels & face cloths except to throw them over the shower rod. Had breakfast in the restaurant a few times, food & service very good. There is a business center with 2 computers & printers so you can get your boarding pass and free wi-fi (excellent!). The pool looked nice, though we didn't have time to go in.

Room Tip: Ask for a quite room away from elevators & vending machine.

Had originally booked in to Days Inn down the street but it was so dirty we checked out and came to Mills House. Thank God they had availability for 3 families for 1 week at short notice! Really enjoyed our stay - very central. Rooms clean and comfortable. ALL staff personable, helpful and friendly - nothing was too much hassle. Pool was great as well - apart from the jackhammer going all afternoon next door (not hotel's fault, but even on a Sunday?!) There were 2 weddings going on at the weekend, but apart from the massive amount of people in the lobby, you wouldn't have known - and it was nice to get a taste of how the locals celebrate!

Room Tip: Rooms near elevator, vending machines and cleaning cupboard will be a bit noisy!
