“Excellent stay in Charleston.”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

We stayed at the Mills House for one night. It was excellent. We were able to get our room for $90 plus taxes through Priceline. Parking is $23 per night which includes valet service. The staff was professional and nice. Clarence, a bell hop, was extremely helpful and made us feel very welcomed.
The hotel is in the perfect location and we were able to walk to everything.
We will definitely stay here again during our next trip to Charleston.

This hotel is perfect! I'm a travel agent, so I was there to check out the area for destination weddings Great location, very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful decor.

Parking: Valet parking for $22 was the going rate. Public parking was $20, so for an extra $2 we didn't have to worry about parking.

Hotel/Rooms: Beautifully decorated, gives you the feel of history. Excellent location near the market and lots of restaurants. You can walk everywhere. Make sure you check out the Market across the street.

Restaurants: We didn't eat at the hotel, there were so many other choices. Fleet Landing was awesome over on the waterside. The best shrimp and grits I've ever had! There is a great brunch place right next to the hotel - Pooches Porch. Several famous people have eaten here and the best eggs Benedict!

This is a Holiday Inn, but definitely has the intimate B&B feeling and you would never know it was a Holiday Inn. i was really impressed.

Charleston is a walking city & the Mills House is perfectly located for visiting the Old Market, the Battery, historic homes and shops. Oh, and restaurants! Husk, just named Bon Appetit's #1 new restaurant in the county is right next door on Queen St, as are Poogan's Porch & 82 Queen. The hotel staff is polite & friendly, though neither concierge impressed me all that much. Because of the age of the hotel, the rooms are on the small size, but they are nicely decorated and the bedding is good. My one complaint is that there is no towel bar in the bathroom. Not sure what you are supposed to do with towels & face cloths except to throw them over the shower rod. Had breakfast in the restaurant a few times, food & service very good. There is a business center with 2 computers & printers so you can get your boarding pass and free wi-fi (excellent!). The pool looked nice, though we didn't have time to go in.

Room Tip: Ask for a quite room away from elevators & vending machine.

Had originally booked in to Days Inn down the street but it was so dirty we checked out and came to Mills House. Thank God they had availability for 3 families for 1 week at short notice! Really enjoyed our stay - very central. Rooms clean and comfortable. ALL staff personable, helpful and friendly - nothing was too much hassle. Pool was great as well - apart from the jackhammer going all afternoon next door (not hotel's fault, but even on a Sunday?!) There were 2 weddings going on at the weekend, but apart from the massive amount of people in the lobby, you wouldn't have known - and it was nice to get a taste of how the locals celebrate!

Room Tip: Rooms near elevator, vending machines and cleaning cupboard will be a bit noisy!

I recently stayed at the Mills House while attending a violin camp in Charleston. The room was clean, comfortable, attractive, and quiet. The hotel hosted part of the camp so the location was superb. We could walk to the classroom locations (in local churches) and some of the training was done in the hotel itself. Even though it was very hot in Charleston, we were able to walk to lovely shops, restaurants, and museums in relative comfort as we were close to many attractions. We were not able to get WiFi in our room (422) but the management tried very hard to fix that. We did have to use the lobby to get on the internet but received free breakfasts as a compensation. That was very nice. I would definitely stay there again.

I love Charleston and have stayed at the Mills House on 3 separate occassions. I love this hotel's location and the staff, especially the doorman who makes you feel special every time you return "home". I have noticed that with each visit my room gets better and bigger but even the first time, I thought the room was adequate. Great pool and wonderful restaurant - though the restaurant is a little pricey, but did not disappoint.
This is a GREAT location in this easily walkable town and in the quieter area of town. Very near all the "cutsie" houses and their courtyards. I spend hours just walking The Battery area and looking at all the houses, very Southern Living Magazine. Hotel is very near Washington park, several of the mansions (like Calhoun)which you can tour, walkable to the "Slave Market" - maybe 7-10 minute walk, the water 3 mins, Rainbow Row, etc. Also, a big plus for me is that one of my favorite restaurants "Poogan's Porch" is right across the street, wonderful biscuits and I have not had a bad meal there EVER. Also, you must try the red velvet bread pudding at Blossom's Restaurant, 3 words: TO DIE FOR. Blossom's is to date my favorite restaurant of all time, and i am a travel bug, been to all 50 states, Europe, etc. Best meal ever was Blossom's, have I mentioned the red velvet bread pudding?
AND if you have never been to Charleston before, they have a lot of public restrooms located in their parking garages, so if you need to go, and do not want to have to return to the hotel or beg a restaurant for the use, just head to a public garage.
