“Everything at this hotel was superb”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights with 3 kids and a dog. Is was chilly and rainy and the staff here made our stay amazing. They go out of their way to help you. The pool is beautiful, warm and inviting. The drinks and bartenders were fast and courteous. Loved this place and would not stay anywhere else in Charleston. Locations and rooms were fabulous as well. Well worth the cost.

Location can't be beat, but for the cost of our rooms, the service was lukewarm and the professionalism just OK. I called for a taxi half hour before we needed to leave for dinner because we are a family of 5. we arrived downstairs to no taxi and a member of the bell staff agitated and leaving the back chewing on her dinner(?) as she dealt with trying to call the taxi back to the hotel. Eventually, after about 15 minutes, we were offered a ride in a hotel car, but that was never offered before - all very confusing. Housekeeping staff is ordered about loudly in the morning by a supervisor, and they are clearly frustrated by her - weird. Could hear neighboring rooms' TV at 2am.

Dear A M,

We are glad to hear you enjoyed our centralized location, but disappointed that the rest of your stay did not meet your expectations. Our few hotel cars are typically reserved, but one was offered to your family to amend the taxi's late arrival. We do apologize if our staff or neighboring guests were loud during your stay. We appreciate your review and hope you will give us another chance next time you’re in town.

Sincerely,

My sisters, mother, and niece all stayed here over Easter and we had a great time. This hotel is what I think of as southern luxury with great southern hospitality. I was amazed that each staff person we saw greeted us all and were very welcoming. Our rooms had balconies and they were great, as we got a nice view of Charleston. The hotel location was perfect, close to everything we wanted to visit. We used the pool and it was very nice salt-water. We would return to this hotel again the next time we go to Charleston. The size of the rooms were very spacious, the only thing we missed were coffee makers, but my sister found a starbucks very close by, so it did not bother us, as we were very happy with everything else - we felt pampered and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor with balconies - it was a very lovely view of the city and very quiet.

We went down to Charleston back in late Jan. for a wedding. We stayed at the Charleston Place. They have new rooms done so we got to stay in one of the newer room. I will say they were really nice I'll give Charleston place credit for that. What bothered me was the tv wasn't working so we said we'd go out and get lunch and then be back in couple hours we came back no tv working it didn't work at all that weekend. We had one of the guys at the front desk tell my husband we'd get back 100 dollars refunded for no tv and then the lady that ran the front desk turned around and told us they couldn't do that or do anything for us. We were also told they would give us free internet snice tv wasn't working for 48 hours so we used the internet on my nook to watch movies. Well when we went to go check out they want to charge us 55 dollars for internet. My husband got them to not charge us. That'll say thank for at least giving us free interentet. But if your going to tell someone ur going to do something. Please do it. Most of the staff was really nice to us, but the front desk could be quite rude and they over charge on everything even after paying 500 something a night for a room! Wont be going back!

Room Tip: Your in a great location but they over charge for everything. But will say the rooms are really nice...

Dear Dnlscgirl1985,

While we are happy you enjoyed our newest Premier Room category, we are sorry to hear there were issues during your stay. Unfortunately, the TV outage was out of our hands at that moment as there were issues region wide by our cable provider. However, we do apologize for the confusion at the front desk and billing issues. While we are sorry your stay was not what you expected, we do appreciate your positive and constructive feedback.

We went back to Charleston - this time to experience the town in Spring. The weather was a bit cool but easily offset by the warmth of the hospitality we got at The Charleston Place. We stayed on the Club Level and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff (especially Ken and Daniel) are top notch. Very professional but also very friendly.

The hotel is undergoing renovation. Remarkably, there was little evidence of that in the public areas. One hoist in the courtyard to haul away demolition trash. No noise to speak of.

Room Tip: The south side gives a view of Old Town Charleston - church spires, etc. I prefer the north side...

This is a large gem hotel right in the center of downtown. You can't get a more convenient location. We were there for five days and had a newly renovated king room, which was gorgeous. Marble bathroom, elegant gray and white furnishings. A nice sitting area with two chairs, amazingly comfy king bed--all around just awesomely clean and elegantly comfortable. The bar has nightly jazz, which was fun at at end of the day. There are shops below--Chicos, Tommy Bahama, Bl and White, etc., which I wouldnt normally choose, but for this trip it was fine. We didn't eat in their restaurants--they look beautiful but are pricey, and 'Hello Everyone reviewing--this is Charleston. Eat out, the restaurants are close by and great." Use their super concierge service. They recommended and booked fantastic restaurants every day for us, and we liked all, except one which was mediocre, and they told us it might be. (It was Easter, and we hadnt booked ahead. It was fine.) They directed us around to cool things to see and do off the beaten path. It is a class act all around. Downsides for me: the adjoining room could be heard through the connecting door-ask for a newly renovated, non-adjoining room.Otherwise the room was very quiet; there's no nice outdoor garden to sit in. Downtown is full of them so, just get out there. It is an easy trip.

We were visiting Charleston on a college tour trip. We found Charleston Place hit or miss, mostly good stuff though. Some minor maintenance issues in the newly decorated room. My biggest beef was there weren't more choices for food at the hotel. The main restaurant is a steak house so lots of heavy meals. We wanted to eat there b/c we had a $100 food and beverage credit from our platinum AMEX. Otherwise, we would have tried one of the many fabulous places to eat in town. The room was very nice and beautifully decorated. They need to get the decorator down to the bar and lighten it up. The breakfast restaurant was a nice atmosphere and great food, waiter wasn't the greatest, but made terrific coffee. All in all a great hotel in a perfect location.
