Charleston Place is a quintessential southern luxury hotel, with all the modern amenities but with the feel of an old Southern high-end hotel. It's literally across the street from the Charleston street market and tons of restaurants. Nearby try the restaurant Toast for breakfast, or Amen for great seafood.
Cocktail hour in the Thoroughbred Club every evening is a must. The jazz, people watching, and friendly staff make for a storybook atmosphere. Dinner at the Charlseton Grill was a rare experience - very attentive service, great food, great atmosphere. Arrive a little early and enjoy a cocktail at the bar - the bartenders are very welcoming. Being greeted by name is a rare pleasure these days and they did just that and much more at Charleston Grill, and the cuisine was absolutely excellent.
Our hotel room was nice but not exceptional. I expected this so I was not disappointed, but be aware this is a vintage hotel with all the associated charms.
If you are looking for a modern stuffy hotel, don't go to Charlseton Place. If you are looking for southern hospitality and a laid-back atmosphere, make your reservations now and give yourself three nights there to enjoy everything Charleston has to offer.More
