“You'll have a nice stay at the Renaissance”
Reviewed May 29, 2007

The hotel is centrally located to everything. I found the hotel to be beautiful and well maintained. The room we I stayed in was clean and comfortable. Everyone was very nice except for one doorman, parked my car in the wrong spot and instead telling me that he saw my car in one of the reserve spaces he persisted on pestering me. He was trying to tell me to park some place else but his approach was HORRIBLE. Overall if you're going to visit Charleston and you're looking for an upper scale hotel that will meet you expectations this is it.

This is a nice hotel, within walking distance of shops & restaurants. It's located on a side street so traffic and noise weren't a problem. The rooms are on the small side (as is the swimming pool) but nicely appointed. The staff could not have been more helpful. We only ate one meal onsite, the breakfast buffet. Due to a server mixup we had to sit and wait for a while until we were waited on. Howerver the waitress apologized and our breakfast was no charge.....nice touch. I would highly recommend the restaurant, Slighty North of Broad.....great food & service. I would stay int his hotel again. The only thing I missed is having a small refrigerator in the room.

  • Liked — Location!
  • Disliked — No mini refrigerator (not that big of a deal) and heavy doors that people seemed to slam and not close quietly

I have tried many of the hotels in downtown Charleston, and as far as accomodations go, the Renaissance is one of the nicest I've stayed in. That being said, the view from my room was surprisingly disappointing. I had a view of neighboring rooftops, and looking around the hotel, I can't imagine there are many rooms with a "city view of the historic downtown", as their website boasts. The hotel is sandwiched on a side street near the market, and within walking distance of many historic attractions. Charleston is definitely a walking city, and the Renaissance is a good place to be based. The bed was comfortable, and the room was nicely appointed. A more comfortable sitting chair would have been nice. Parking is on the upper levels of a garage across the street. It's a small city garage in which you spend more time turning the corners than anything. Going up and down 4 or 5 levels more than once a day became an annoyance. Overall, the Renaissance was a good value and I would recommend it to anyone visiting the Historic District.

I stayed here with the family including 2 kids 3 and 7. We had a larger type room that had french doors to the master and a large bathroom. The bed was really comfortable! The other room had a pull out sofa bed which the kids slept on. It also had its own tv which was great for them to entertain themselves.

We ate breakfast there at the hotel and it was good. We had a coupon for $30 and used it for that. Otherwise the buffet is like $15 or so.

Every staff member was really nice. You also get a free shoe shine if you want it. You call down and they come get your shoes and bring them back in the morning.

You have to pay for parking at this hotel and most of the others since you are downtown with limited space. I think it was $15 a night to park with valet or $12 if you part it yourself.

  • Liked — Great room and nice people. Excellent price.

We had a great experience at this hotel. Don't make the mistake of staying outside the historic downtown. We got this hotel on Priceline, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford it. Really nice and the staff was friendly. Do the self park across the street - very convenient and safe.

Great staff, great location and great rooms. Very clean and worth the
$300 a night you stay. It was my husband and I's 1st anniversary and they sent up champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, 2 handpainted
champagne flutes (by a local artist) and a small plate, also painted by the same charleston artist. Very nice gesture. Would defintely go back! Just don't stay at the Holiday Inn Historic District hotel. We moved here from there and we were so dissappointed. The Rennaisance defintely made our trip recover after the holiday inn experience.

This hotel is in the perfect location and you are able to walk everywhere. We weren't really at the hotel too much, as there is so much to do in Charleston. The rooms were well equipped and the staff was attentive. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.
