“Charleston Vacation”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We stayed at this hotel because it is a Marriott resort and we always find them clean and accommodating to us. Restaurant, lounge, concierge all top notch. Perfect location for first time Charleston visitors. Restaurants, tourist attractions all within walking distance. It was so hot in July and every day upon our return there was a huge fresh lemon water dispenser in the lobby waiting for us. Loved our stay at this establishment!

Room Tip: Ask for room with balcony. Very quaint!

Location and staff are fantastic. Easy access to King or meeting Streets. Room clean, but just average. Was on 6th floor and it was very noisy at night. I felt the $339 per night was overpriced for an average room and small bathroom.

Stayed for three days with my family while we toured the low country this summer. We would definitely come back and stay here again. The location was perfect for us. Although you pay for parking, you can come and go as you please. The breakfast at the hotel was well done and the staff in the restaurant were exceptional. The pool, although small, was comfortable and relaxing. The location was within easy walking distance to good restaurants and attractions. I recommend this hotel for couples, but families be advised the double beds ,may be a tad cramped for some.

We stayed in July with our family of 4 (two adults kids 12 and 15). This hotel had a boutique feel but with more amenities. The lobby was welcoming and all the staff we encountered were professional and welcoming as well. Some reviews stated that this property was outdated. This hotel fit right in with with the charm of Charleston and did not feel like it was outdated. Rooms were good in size. We had a larger room with a Juliette balcony that easily accomodated a rollaway with plenty of room. Rooms and hotel area were clean. This hotel is right where you want to be for visiting Charleston. We did a private carriage tour and the company picked us up right at the hotel. You could walk anywhere in the city from this property. We ate the buffet breakfast each day and it was good. They do not have a concierge lounge but they give rewards members 2 voucher for continental breakfast. We traded them in toward a full breakfast. My husband and daughter used the pool one afternoon. The pool is very small. If we ever have the pleasure to visit Charleston again I would not hesitate to stay here again. On a side note we did the Boone plantation tour and the Gullah theatre at the plantation. What a moving experience.

Room Tip: Request larger room with Juliette balcony

The Renaissance is between King Street and Meeting Street, which are the two main streets in the historic district. We had to drive around a bit to find it as the street sign was missing on Meeting street. You will need to turn right at the fire station. Shopping is a block away on King. Carriage rides and market are two blocks up on Meeting street. There is a chocolatier on the street to the left when you leave the hotel that has coffee and croissants, but does not open til 8. The drinks in the bar are expensive, I recommend the Muse, which is across the street in a yellow building and has a lovely outside seating area. The room is quiet with two queen size beds. Nothing special, except that you get chocolates on your pillow which welcome your return to the room in the evening. They did provide written directions to a plantation house that they retrieved from a file, so I assume that they have many directions to area attractions.

Room Tip: Turn right at the fire station. Take the free shuttle city shuttle when possible.

Really good location, easy to get to and a big parking garage across the street that you can park yourself or use valet service. All amenities that you'd expect, except there was no concierge room for breakfast. The lounge is small but inviting, right off the lobby. Service was very pleasant and rooms are predictably clean and comfortable. We walked to everything we wanted to see in Charleston and used the car when we left the area - Daniel Island, Sullivan Island, etc. I would definitely choose this Marriott location over the Courtyard which is a bit further from the market, waterfront and historical district where tours occur. When we return we'll use this hotel again.

Room Tip: I used points for this hotel stay so Value is harder to measure - but it was still a great stay. We...

Very friendly, attentive service from the car valet to the check in experience and especially the breakfast server, Jay. The room was very clean, just a bit dated--small lampshades were cracked, drapes did not fully close, and the TV reception on several channels was poor. As in most hotels, did hear some loud guests in the hallway late at night, not the hotel's fault. Had breakfast buffet 2 days--excellent service on both, Jay our server once, professional, attentive and dedicated--he is an asset to the hotel. Front desk staff prompt both with check in, a minor bill issue and check out. Would stay here again no doubt.

Room Tip: I had a front entrance view, not bad, not sure if any others are better. Very few rooms were availa...
