“Would never stay here again”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Had I known that Internet service was 12 dollars a day, I would have considered another hotel. The room view was a building. We weren't told at check in about complimentary breakfast. One of our 6 days staying there I was waiting in the lobby for my husband to park the car by the way which was 12 dollars a day for self parking, I overheard a conversation between a receptionist and patron. The patron was told about free Internet and complimentary breakfast. It was a slap in in the face. Also on the website it appears each room is supplied with terry robes. Not true. Also for the price you would think the rooms would at least have a fridge.
My husband and I were there for our anniversary. Other places we have stayed always say happy anniversary. Embassy had a bottle of wine and strawberries waiting in our room upon arrival.
We love Charleston and can't wait to return. However, we will be staying somewhere besides the Renaissance.

A great location and very upscale. We unfortunately were there for only 1 night on our way to Hilton Head. Truly would recommend this hotel to anyone. Rooms are modern and have all the amenities except for a refrigerator.

A lovely historic hotel in immaculate condition. My room is comfortable, not huge but very clean and modern and everything works fine. Staff here is all very friendly, service is excellent. Hotel bar and restaurant is good.

You are in walking distance of everything in historic Charleston and there are plenty of restaurants, bars, museums, etc. to keep you as busy as you want to be. College of Charleston and The Citadel are here so there is a fresh, upbeat feel of the area from all the young people.

Room Tip: Specify the size of bed you want; they have doubles, queens and kings available.

The service at this hotel was above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. The beds, pillows, furnishings everything about our room was perfect! We ate at the hotel restaurant for breakfast and it was wonderful. The setting is perfect right in the middle of everything in historic downtown Charleston!!!

Fantastic Marriott property. Not sure what is going on with any negative reviews because there is nothing to be negative about. I've stayed at many five star properties and this is a beautiful hotel. The staff at all levels are very nice and want to make your stay perfect. Them location is so convenient to both King Street and Meeting Street. Very nice to be able to shop, rest and shop some more.

Stayed at this hotel for a convention. Our stay was for 3 days and was wonderful. Had some free time and could walk to everything we wanted to see. Beautiful part of Charleston and full of history. Marked place close by. Fort Sumter, aquarium within walking distance. A lot of historic tours available..

Room Tip: We had a king bed and understand from other people that the rooms with 2 beds (doubles) got to be a...

We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. For location, it is great. You are near King Street and the Market. But that is about the best thing about this hotel. The bed was bad. I asked the front desk if they had better beds elsewhere or even a pillow top. I was told "We will check and see." I still have not heard from them. As for the rooms. There are no safes. There are tears in the bed linens and curtains. The hotel hallways smelled musty. They even messed up our reservation. When you check out be careful. They try and charge you $1.00 "destination fee" each night. I was told that this is charged by Charleston area hotels to promote the area. The way i look at it, they collect plenty of taxes from tourists. The fee is optional. Don't pay it.
