At the tip of downtown Charleston, you can see the coast surrounded by this gorgeous historical park lined by the many multi-story historical houses. Walking the Battery is a favorite of mine. I could imagine myself jogging this daily if we lived closer. An absolute must to get the real feel of Charleston.

I have been to Charleston many times and I always make it a point to walk around the battery on each and every trip. No visit to Charleston would be complete without a visit to Battery Park. This area is not only beautiful but it is full of history. White Point Gardens, also known as The Battery, is a park where you can see where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. You just have to put yourself in the mindset that reflects on all of the history that happened here. Think about Charleston citizens watching the Civil War begin out over on Ft. Sumter from here. Think about the cannons that you can visit and touch and imagine them in action! There are many beautiful mansions along here to take pictures of. Unfortunately the bad economy is taking its toll here, as there are no many historical places now listed for sale.

Gaze across the water at Ft. Sumtner and imagine those early days of the Civil War. Stay in the shade of the lovely oak trees and enjoy the flowers and benches in the park. The cannons there are silenced, but if you listen carefully, you may hear the voices of those long gone. A true Southern gem.

It is worth visiting the gardens just to admire the stunning houses that line the streets. This is a lovely location looking over the water and is a peaceful place to stroll around, particularly early morning or early evening. Worth a visit.
