steeped in history, the battery is a wonderful spot to spend some time and rejuvenate from your tepid sightseeing pace. overlooking the bay and Fort Sumter, there isn't a better historic park in all of Charleston.

I had never been here before but this is a beautiful park and well maintained. Took a number of pictures of the 13 inch mortars and multiple size cannons used by the Union army during the Civil war.

My partner and I stayed on King Street while visiting Charleston – and each morning we would run down to and along the battery (from King and Wentworth Streets it is less than 1 mile). Taking in the water views, harbor breeze, and views of some amazing real estate made our morning runs that much more enjoyable... Not to mention a few of the mornings, Dolphins would swim along the sea wall next to us! We also headed down here one afternoon to take a more leisurely stroll and enjoy the sights.

The actual Battery area / White Point Gardens is not very large. There is some artillery from the Civil War (such as cannons), several wartime monuments, and some big beautiful oak trees. While visiting Charleston, you have to take a walk along the Battery to soak in the harbor air, check out the monuments, see some awesome mansions, and just relax and take in the surroundings. I recommend going in the morning / early afternoon as the sun is in the best position at this time (makes for better viewing / pictures). I would say an hour or so is plenty of time.

Also, between Waterfront Park and The Battery is where Rainbow Row is. It is just a row of brightly colored homes, but while in the area, it is worth walking by.

We stayed right on the Battery so this was right across the street from our B&B. It was enjoyable to stroll in the gardens and see the view from the sidewalk along the rivers.

Great fountains in a park like setting with glorious huge trees. Beautiful views of harbor/piers and lots of activity. Gorgeous historic homes to stroll past and also watch carriage rides go by
