Discovered Lana last trip. Great neighborhood spot, menu is Mediterranean and very good. Our server was knowledgeable and very helpful with selections. A bit off the beaten path, but those of us who live here part time like that.

“Embarrassing”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We had heard rave reviews about the food, the service, the lunch every time we visited Charleston. When we had visitors with us last, we decided to try it. We ordered appetizers (2) for six of us, 2 cocktails, 4-5 glasses of wine, four entrees and 1 coffee at lunch and for very average food, we paid almost $300! Not worth it. The waiter was sarcastic and surly and kept commenting to us about what to get, so we took his advice in two things and when we wanted to return them because they were not good at all and $25+ each, we were met with defensiveness and frowns. Then our replacements took more than 40 mins to come out so most everyone had long since finished their food. The braziole soup had skin on the fish that was scaly and slimy. The bread was cold and hard. The two whites we tried were so light and tasteless we wondered if they had been opened too long before we drank them. The whole experience was sour and the waiter and hostess were so cavalier - we were embarrassed that we had suggested it to our friends.

“Eat Like a Local”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

Although we all love to travel down to the market area and mingle with the crowds and tourists, by about July it is nice to steal away to the Upper King street area and take in cocktails at one of the many new bars and then have a nice dinner at Lanas. They do pasta, fish, and tapas as well as anyone more on the scene but at better prices. And have a nice wine list to boot with a very affordable happy hour. Ask for Kelly, he will take good care of your group or couple like you are an old friend.

“Charleston Trip”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

a small and intimate restaurant in north of city. Northern Italian food was great, can order small or regular size portions, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. This is a hidden gem to most because not in downtown with most restaurants. You simply must get in your car and go !! Choolate cake with espresso gelato a great way to end the evening. Thanks to Stephanie for making it fun !

“A lovely experience”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

This was our first time at Lana with their regular menu; we had been there once before for the Charleston Food and Wine Festival. The restaurant is quiet with a simple, but elegant feel to it. They have a nice bar area too. Our waiter was attentive, and made very helpful suggestions to us, especially about the wines. I had the duck entree, and others at my table had the Basque chicken and the risotto of the day. Everyone was happy with the entrees and not a bite was left on the plates. They were brought to us by the chef too, a nice touch.
The grilled peach and arugula salad to start was also quite good, as were the desserts we had, gelato and lemon tart. I would definitely go back -- this place is a gem!
