Michael Trouche's tour is the greatest. In 2 hours he tells you everything you want to know about this lovely historic city. And he is 7th generation. We even got to see the home he grew up in and later in the museum we saw the business sign of his great-grandfather. 20 on the tour and $20 per. Well worth it.
I can't recommend the tour more highly..

Michael is everything you could ask for in a tour guide. His tour covers not only the sights and history of the city, but his own personal experiences as well, which makes the city come alive in a way that most tours do not. He has been an actor on stage and he has loud clear thespian's voice that carries so well and adds to the experience. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the past and present of a city he clearly loves. He takes you down narrow alleys and out to the harbor and places the carriages cannot get to. The 2 hours just flew by and I was sad when we had to stop. And even has cost is reasonable. Even if you think you know Charleston, take his tour. You want to learn about Micheal's Charleston.

What a pleasant walking tour around Charleston's beautiful historic neighborhood. Our guide, Michael, was full of history, stories, and architectural details which made the tour fly by. I had many opportunities to photograph hidden gardens and so many lovely homes! Michael clearly knows the area so well as he grew up here. It was nice to see how many locals greeted him warmly and made us feel welcome. Thank you for a memorable afternoon!

Michael has many interesting facts about the different houses, buildings and monuments that he brings you to. He also seems to be very active in the community as runners, parents, other tour guides and store keeps all go out of their way to say hello to him. Solid guy.

We had a walking tour with Michael on our first morning in Charleston. It could not have been any better! He is delightful, charming and certainly knows his city. He knew most of us by name and where we were from. He had a way of making you feel right at home. He told many very interesting stories about the city, the architecture, the history, the people who had lived there and a few who still live there. His stories were fun to listen to. I chose the walking tour over a carriage tour because if you walk, you can go anywhere. The horses and carriages are limited to 3 specific routes and you never know which route your carriage will be assigned. I loved that we got to go through little cobblestone alleys and parks and up on the battery to see the harbor. And he could stop anywhere to explain something or point something out or tell a story. Choosing Michael Trouche for a tour guide may be your best decision in Charleston. I know it was mine!
