the ride was great. we have two strollers and it was easy getting on and off. the captain even helped! Our kids got to see dolphins, container ships, cruise ships, the Yorktown battleship, and more! For the price, we even did a round trip just to get more relaxing time on the boat. Now our kids ask us every time we go to Charleston, "can we go on the water taxi?" It is the most fun way to get to the Yorktown from downtown Charleston! It is one of those experiences that we'll do every day we are there!

I really enjoyed taking the Water Taxi while staying at the Charleston Harbor Resort. It was an hour boat ride for only $8. The Captain was very personable and a big help with local knowledge. He led me to a few great local watering holes. The dolphins were really cool too.

Initially we only went on the water taxi because it goes every hour rather than the 2 or 3 hours of the proper water cruises and we didn't want to go to Fort Sumter due to time constraints, but it was one of the best decisions we made on our trip. I really wanted to do a boat ride as I'd heard about the dolphins and I enjoy any type of boat trip. My mum was sceptical that we'd see any dolphins.

We were on the boat with just one other couple and the 2 crew. It's around 12 dollars for a return trip and you can get off the other side or just come straight back. The dock is near the Aquarium which is actually quite far from town, we walked and it was a bit of a trek and you needed a map but you can get a bus or one of the sight seeing tours I think.

As soon as we got out of the dock, the crew pointed out a dolphin (so my mum ate her words!). I missed it but as we continued on, a pod of dolphin started following us, or were we following them? there were 2 or 3 adults and amazingly one baby dolphin. Even the crew were fascinated by this and we stopped for a little while circling around the same area so we got a really good view of the dolphins. I'm not sure if the crew always spend so long drifting in the water so the travellers get a good view but it was amazing for us. The dolphins swam off after a little while and the crew continued to the other dock. Unfortunately for them, no one else got on so we set off back on our way to the Charleston dock.

Pretty soon, the dolphins were near us again, even closer than before and we spent a while drifting around just watching them. As we got closer to shore, the dolphins got very brave and were literally right next to the boat. It was amazing.

I would really really recommend going on the water taxi if you want to see dolphins as it's small and quiet and so you get to drift closer to the dolphins if there are any around, rather than a big boat with a narration going on. Obviously they can't guarantee there will be any dolphins around but if you're lucky, it's an amazing experience! The ride around the river is quite nice as well, especially if it is hot as you get the breeze off the water.

This water taxi over to the Yorktown and the Charleston Marina is a great ride with excellent service. It's not expensive and worth just taking the boat for the view! The crew were extremely helpful with directions and a lunch recommendation at the Marina.
