Owner description: Middleton Place is an 18th century rice plantation and National Historic Landmark comprising 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House Museum and the Plantation Stableyards. The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th century European design. Sculpted terraces, parterres, and reflection pools inhabited by swans are highlights of their intricate design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter, while vibrant azaleas blanket the hillside above the Mill Pond in the spring.

Gardens and grounds were the best. Excellent Connection program about slavery. Went on a Sunday - left with tear filled eyes after hearing tour presenter Mr. Manigault (spelling), an 83 year old African American gentleman give a stirring hour presentation titled "Beyond the Fields." Not to spoil the ending but it was a definitely a blessing especially appropriate for a serene setting on the lawns of this amazing place on a Sunday afternoon!! Put this one on the top of your favorite attractions in the Holy City of Charleston.

The docents were very well trained and dressed in period clothes. They were very thorough and able to answer our numerous questions. We will return!

Spent about half a day here. Grounds are beautiful. Leisurely strolling around the grounds. Took the house tour (interesting) and the animal tour (no rush, up close to some farm animals, so fun). Some interesting history. Good place to spend some time. We went in March, so some flowers were out probably even better later in the spring.

Middleton Place was very lucky to have such a mild winter. Here in late-March, the azaleas are blooming to a massive degree, and some of the camellias are still in bloom as well. The Gardens are definitely the star of the show in spring, but the Plantation Stableyards and House Museum are fantastic year-round. Thanks for your review.

We saw three plantations near Charleston, and this by far had the best presented tour. Our guide, Margaret, was extremely knowledgeable, offering may facts about the plantation in a pleasant manner. We could feel her enthusiasm for the site and its history. We were never rushed, and she happily answered all questions.
The plantation has magnificent grounds, with the original landscaping and gardens maintained in the splendor of the antebellum era. There is an interpretive area where you can experience the working farm of a plantation from 200 years ago.

Middleton Place has the most beautiful gardens as well as the main house with original era furniture. The dining room offers delightful simple options for a light lunch and there is a large selection of unique gifts in the store. We took the carriage ride around the plantation and took hundreds of pictures. The tour guides in each area were engaging and professional. Politics has not changed much from this era. We were there over four hours and could have stayed longer. We walked through the entire garden areas. You feel you are in Europe.
