“C.H.S. Hunley sailors, a true tribute”

After visiting the museum for the first naval combat submerine, and learning very interesting facts about the men who were aboard fighting during the War Between The States, the tour guide gave us directions to this cemetary to see the memorial to them and the other crews that died. It was any history lovers dream to see such a fitting rememberance to a forgotten piece of American History.

“Worth the drive to find this gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2012

Spend some time here in this grand cemetery by the river. From the rows of civil war headstones to the mausoleums of Charleston's old guard, you can't escape feeling the history here. Pick up a copy of City of The Silent, The Charlestonians of Magnolia Cemetary by Ted Ashton Phillips, Jr. to read about the lives of Charleston's famous and not-so-famous.

we took a drive and ended up by this cemetary. it is one of the oldest in Charleston. wonderful time just walking through and reading the headstones. all of the men who drown on the 3 CSA Navy submarine the Hunley are buried there. The Hunley was built and sank all 3 times. Each claiming lives in the disaster.

“Beautiful, Historical cemetery Minutes from downtown Charleston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2012

This is a must see if you like the historical aspects of Charleston. The crew of the Hunley is buried here and there is a large Confederate Burial Ground. The statues and tombstones are stunning. We spent over 3 hours walking the grounds. It is a very large cemetery hidden down a side street within 10 minutes of downtown Charleston. Stop in the office to get a map of the area .
