we took a drive and ended up by this cemetary. it is one of the oldest in Charleston. wonderful time just walking through and reading the headstones. all of the men who drown on the 3 CSA Navy submarine the Hunley are buried there. The Hunley was built and sank all 3 times. Each claiming lives in the disaster.

This is a must see if you like the historical aspects of Charleston. The crew of the Hunley is buried here and there is a large Confederate Burial Ground. The statues and tombstones are stunning. We spent over 3 hours walking the grounds. It is a very large cemetery hidden down a side street within 10 minutes of downtown Charleston. Stop in the office to get a map of the area .

Although this cemetary seems to be located in a "not so nice" part of town ( looked like it, but I don't know this for sure), it is a great place to visit if you are interested in old cemeteries or just history itself. It is located a the other end of town (off Meeting St/Rd). I went one drizzly morning and it was something out of a movie. So many of the graves are very, very old and the grounds are just amazing with all the spanish moss and various other trees/plants. I also got to see the burial site of the H.L. Hunley crew. This cemetary is also situated near a few other very old cemeteries.

Went to see the Hunley crew but enjoyed roaming around and exploring the entire cemetery.
