“Awesome Campground”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

Just came back from 4 days of camping at this beautiful campground. My granddaughters loved the climbing wall and playground. Nice hiking trails and great biking. Laundry and bathroom facilities were great. Will surely make a return trip.

We enjoyed our stay at James Island County Park. There is a lot to do including a wonderful jogging/bicycle trail, kayaking, and a climbing wall. The park staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We camped in the primitive campground which consisted of a large grass field under the high power lines. There were flush toilets but no showers, a bit pricey ($30. per night). The no-see ums bothered us every night around sunset but no bugs at any other time. On our last morning someone decided to mow the grass in our campsite at 7am. We woke up to a large mower with in two feet of our tent. Next time we will rent one of the wonderful cabins offered.

We stayed at the James Island County Park Campground in mid February. It was a beautiful campground and the bathrooms were very clean. The hiking/biking trails were very nice and look forward to many return trips to check out Charleston.

James Island park and campground is one of the BEST camping facilities we have visited. They are ALL about providing an exceptional experience to the family. Activities for kids, adults, crabbing, cycling (bikes for hire), waterpark, shuttle service, more, more, more. You cannot go wrong with this home away from home.

This park is close to everything if you like charelston. The sites are fairly large with some privacy I would not call it a lot of privacy unless you usaly do the large RV parks. the sites have power, water, sewer, fire ring and free WiFi but no pay phone ???.The washrooms are clean. The only issue is we are staying during the light festival. The music start at 4.30, the 3-4 thousand cars per night show up at 5.30 and crawl through the park untill 10.30-11pm just a short distance from the campsites. The campers if you leave off the campsite area after 5.30 pm expect at least 1 hour to get back to the campground as you are in the same lineup of all the cars going through the great light show. The bathroom in the mornings had no lights at all when we complained we where told they would fix the timer two days later we complained again as no lights at all in the morning just a pitch black washroom, over all a nice park with the good sam discount around $42.00 a night. We stayed for 6 nights

Room Tip: if you come during November or December book as far away from the main road as you can

Clean, friendly and so much to do for all ages. The best time of year is the festival of lights, November through January.

Very well maintained, well-run RV campground! It is a Good Sam's campground. Hard to believe it's inside a county park! They have all sorts of sites - pull-thru, full hook-up; water/electric only; tent sites; and even an overflow area. The first thing I liked about this campground was when I made the reservations, I reserved a specific site, so I knew exactly where we would be pulling our travel trailer (based on campground map provided by website). The roads coming through Charleston and leading up to the park were somewhat narrow and have some low-hanging (though beautiful) trees, making for a slightly stressful drive in (about the last 20 min of our drive). The park roads are nice and wide and paved. The camp sites are level, maybe a little sandy. Yes, there are bugs (lots of noseeums when we were there), but the campground cannot do much about the pests and they are a fact of camping. The staff was helpful and friendly. Well-stocked store. OH - and this place is VERY dog-friendly! Lots of dogs. Dogs dogs dogs. Must love dogs! And we do! The campground is located inside the James Island County Park, which itself is awesome! Lots to do; great walking paths. You can rent bikes, too. Great dog park where the dogs can also swim! You can fish and/or crab. The campground offers a shuttle service to/from downtown, too. My only complaint with it is you are boxed into specific hours (leave at 9am, return at 4pm); I wish they offered one or two more times for leaving/returning. But, we'd use the shuttle again even with the time constraint. Oh - one more thing travelers need to be aware of: no cable service (but who needs it when camping?); it's not a complaint for us. Will definitely be back!
