“All I Can Say Is WOW!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating at Hall's Chophouse on Nov. 5th 2013. All I can say is wow! This is what a restaurant experience should be like. We were met at the door by one of the Hall brothers who own the restaurant and welcomed to his establishment. We had the corner table looking out at the whole first floor of the place as well as the street scene going on to our right. Great wine list and very reasonable. We ordered a bottle of cabernet and without even asking the staff decanted it. Then avoiding one of my pet peeves the staff asked first before pouring more into our glasses. Because it was a cabernet it needed all the time it could get. Waiters are always butting in and trying to pour our the bottle to try and get you to buy a second. Not here, Hall's staff really tried to tend to our needs not theirs.
Food was hot, cooked just right and timed for service just right. The bar scene was hot and lots of good energy going on all over. The owners were everywhere talking to the patrons and just enjoying themselves as proud owners should.
Can't say enough about our experience and what a wonderful place Hall's is.

“Halls Chophoyse - Worth the Trip”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Eight of us thoroughly enjoyed Halls Chophouse convening for a 50th Birthday celebration.
Upon arrival, we were escorted to the second floor (cozy) and given a wonderful corner table that made it easy for each of us to talk and enjoy each other's company.

Our server was delightful, knowledgeable, and professional throughout the evening. We all ordered different menu items and were all pleased with our selections.

This is a first-rate, special occasion restaurant in Charleston that should not be missed. There is a reason that it is one of the highest rated restaurants on Trip Advisor.

Don't be put off by the word "Chophouse" in the title as they serve a wide variety of choices besides beef .... Although being from Kansas City, the beef is very good.

An added bonus was being less than three feet from a hidden , unisex bathroom that was very convenient for everyone

“WOW!”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Dinner at Hall's was the single best dining experience I've ever had. Although a number of service staff took care of us, Dinah was our primary server. She was amazing! There were 7 of us in the party. Everybody got something different. Everyone raved about the quality, flavor and presentation of the meals. The family style side dishes suggested by Dinah were all fantastic. Two of our guests were from Denmark. They said they never eat beef in Denmark because the quality is poor. They were amazed at the beef at Hall's. They said, they had never tasted anything as good. It was a little pricey, but worth every penny. Tommy and Billy Hall both stopped by our table to check on us, and both thanked us for coming as we were leaving. Top shelf! Don't miss this one!

“An outstanding restaurant in every way!”
Reviewed November 17, 2013 via mobile

On our last evening travelling round 10 towns and cities across 6 states in the deep south this had to be the best meal and restaurant of our trip. From the personal greeting as we stepped through the door to the detailed attention and service of our waiter. The food is simply excellent. We had rare filet mignon with a sauce and sides. We're people who like steaks and this was on a par with the best we've eaten. And then, although we declined dessert and went straight for coffee, they served us a complimentary dessert of whiskey bread pudding that was just divine. What an outstanding restaurant on every level. We had the best of meals and times here and would come back to Charleston just to eat here again!

“Difficult to know where to begin with the praise ...”
Reviewed November 16, 2013

Just because a restaurant is rated #1 in a city by a travel web site it does not necessarily mean it is, unquestionably, the best. Right? Well ... for all sorts of reasons that skepticism may be appropriate. But in the case of Halls Chophouse, you should not doubt the #1 TripAdvisor rating. It’s impossible to imagine any better restuarant in Charleston. Or South Carolina. Or North Carolina. Or the eastern seaboard. Or ... In fact, let’s cut to the chase. This place is World Class.

First impressions count and as soon as you walk through the front door, you are met by Billy Hall and the ambience is so charged and positive you just know it’s going to be an enjoyable evening. We were seated upstairs and our main server Stefan deserves a special mention. He probably doesn’t realize it, but he could make a quick fortune by opening a very exclusive (and very expensive) five-star Waiter/Server Academy. By simply basing the curriculum on everything he knows (a huge amount) about being a great server, the school would be turning out a stream of high caliber servers the best restaurants would be fighting over to hire. Stefan’s attention to the smallest detail, knowledge of the menu and personal, professional style is very impressive. He made our evening extra special. When you book, ask to be seated at one of his tables if possible. If you can get one, you’ll see what we mean.

I live dangerously when ordering steak. I know all too well what it’s like for a server to raise an eyebrow and give me that ‘are you sure about that sir?‘ look when I order ‘medium-to-well done'. Which I always do. There are some Chefs in London and Paris who positively refuse to cook meat to that consistency and delegate the order to other kitchen staff. In their way too precious ethics book, ‘medium’ is as far as they will go with steak. But here, Stefan complimented me on my choice and explained to me exactly what level of ‘doneness’ I should expect when the steak was served. Which was reassuring to me, as most restaurants can’t cook ‘medium-to-well done’ meat. They either go too far towards ‘medium’ or too far towards ‘well’. Very ‘rarely’ is it cooked just right to my taste. But this time it was exactly as Stefan said it would be and it was the best ‘medium to well’ Ribeye I have eaten. Period.

My wife ordered the scallops - her favorite seafood. She said they were superb and she doesn’t hand out glowing compliments about scallops unless they are very, very good. Have to say they looked very good and the presentation on the plate suggested the Hall family employ an art-director in the kitchen. Lastly, do not, under any circumstances, leave this place without trying the Whiskey Bread Pudding dessert (Stefan’s suggestion) which we shared. Amazing. Simply amazing.

Bottom line? Can only repeat the words again. World Class. And just in case anybody is suspicious ... no ... we are not members of the Hall family and we have not been remunerated to write this review. If you haven’t eaten here yet, put it at the top of your bucket list. Immediately.
