“Private Pub Stroll with Michael”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We had a group of 14 for a private pub stroll on September 14. We asked for tour guide Michael Coker based on the recommendations on TripAdvisor. The recommendations were spot on. Mike is a historian with a full time job at a museum. (Some of our group saw him there 2 days later, he gave them a tour and they bought his book). We passed a gentleman on the street and he said "you have the best tour guide in Charleston". We would concur.

We met in a lovely park and Mike took our pictures. We then started strolling to the first bar. It is a stroll not a falling down drunk crawl. Well I guess that depends on how much you have to drink... We eventually made it to 3 bars (Our fav was the Griffin) with Mike regaling our group with fun and interesting stories. Mike did an interactive tale that had our group in stitches.

This is a really fun way to see some of Charleston and learn a bit of history. A home run for our group.

“A great way to see Charleston, learn some history”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

I love history, but the wife is more neutral on the subject, so this looked like an inviting compromise. WOW, what a great time. We were hosted by a fellow that worked at the Civil War Museum during the day, where he took us walking around Charleston to 5 different pubs. There were stories of the Blind Tiger, Rhett Butler, ghosts and villans - all combined with enough time in each pub to have a refreshment and appetizer. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour for adults who may or may not be students of history.

“a fantastic evening”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

My boyfriend and I had an excellent time with Mike and the rest of the group. You'll hear about some awesome history that you'll never find in a traditional tour or book, and you get to drink (Mike had great drink recommendations at each bar). Definitely worth it!

“Great story with a pirate who brings the past to life! A must for anyone interested in history, specifically alcohol.”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Mike, our pirate tour guide, was full of historical knowledge. He is a true historian who brought the past to life. My wife, not a big drinker, also enjoyed the scintillating and provocative stories of Charles Towne! We had some locals with us and the tour is great for anyone of age. I would definitely return for another night out with the pirate! Can't wait to return to beautiful Charleston and go on the stroll.

We're very glad that you and you wife enjoyed the tour. Mike really is a professional historian, as are the other Pub Stroll Guides. When they're not visiting pubs, they all work at area museums.

Thanks so much for posting the review! We look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Charleston.

“Fun and Interesting”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

This pub stroll was lead by John. He was charming and informative. The walk was more historical info than brewery related. John was knowledgeable about history events and places but didn't say much about the bars we went to visit...but then again, they are all pretty new and don't have much history. Our favorite place was the Roof Top where we had a panoramic view of the city.
