“Great time.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Our family of 6 needed an afternoon out of the sun so we took in the aquarium. The kids had a great time. They are 13, 7, 3 and 2. It was best suited for the younger kids. The 7 year old got to participate in one of the shows and the two year old got to pet a snake. The workers were very helpful.
It is small but was just what we needed for a 2-3 hour activity.

Very enjoyable. Folks everywhere to help. Kids able to hold snakes, starfish, feed stingrays. Plenty of please touch displays. Enjoyed the day.

“Nice, but expensive.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

This aquarium seemed beautifully maintained. I liked how it exhibited the species indigenous to South Carolina. It also had a special Madagascar exhibit. We bought the package that included the 4D theater -- and for $60 for two adults, I expected more. The aquarium is quite small. I understand that the ticket price is used for the care of the animals and the facility. However, the price does not seem consistent with the amount of time it actually takes to go through the aquarium.

This aquarium is nice but small. If you have kids and you like aquariums, it would be a good place to go but otherwise, save your money.

SCAquarium, Manager at South Carolina Aquarium, responded to this review, June 13, 2013
As a non-profit we aim for every visitor to walk away with a unique experience. Every ticket sold goes directly back into the care of our animals and the facility, for example the purchase of one ticket cares for an injured sea turtle for one day. We would love to hear your feedback regarding how your experience could have been improved. Please send suggestions to publicrelations@scaquarium.org.

“-Beautiful Aquarium, But It Ends Almost Before It Starts”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

I have been to many aquariums, in different countries. . We were in Myrtle Beach a couple days before this visit to Charleston, so I figured we would pass on Ripley's Myrtle Beach (having seen Ripley's aquariums- I like them) and wait for the South Carolina Aquarium. Now, this review is a bit inconsistent because while the aquarium is one of the nicest in theme that I have seen (yes, I like it more than the Georgia Aquarium) , it is also smaller than many I have seen. The design and themes are wonderful, but I wuld like to have seen more. The price is a bit high for what is available to you. A major part of the facility is the lobby with small snack bar, large photo taking center, and large store. My kids enjoyed it, but they, too asked why it seemed small.
