“Inspirational Beauty”

Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist

We made attending the 12:05 PM Daily Mass a routine while in Charleston...providing spiritual balance, Eucharistic food for our Noon hour and appreciation in art.

The church interior has dozens of magnificient dazzeling colorful stained glass windows of Old and New Testament scenes and figures. This is a Gothic's gothic churfch, even the pews are adorned with the gothic arches.

Wednesday's Mass was special with school children in pleated skirts and bright red jackets filling the front of the church. A school boy asked me as I aproached the Cathedreal if he could assist me in ascending the steps and said, "Jesus loves you." Chat chivalery!

An organ piece at the end of Mass shook the pews with loud bass sounds emaneting from the hugh pipes in the rear choir loft of St. John's Cathedral.

Finally after 100 years the cathedral has got a tower! I love especially the artful windows and the clear interior; not much that distracts the visitor from stopping for a while in our hectic life and speak with The Creator.

Beautiful singing, a well thought-out sermon, God's presence, and a tour of the cathedral... what more can one ask for on a Sunday morning?

A must see! After the sermon stay for a brief tour to learn about the church's history!

Recently added spire to the tower. Gothic Style. Easy to find on Broad Street.
