“Love King George IV!”
Reviewed September 6, 2008

This was our first time ever staying at a Bed and Breakfast and we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were charming and offered plenty of privacy. The owner, Terry, was so warm and welcoming as was the entire staff. The location is perfect -- everything you need is within walking distance, including plenty of nightlife. We enjoyed our chats with Terry and felt quite at home there. He greeted us every morning and had a wonderful array of breakfast items. We stayed a total of 6 nights. Next time we head to Charleston we will definitely stay there again!

We discovered King George IV on the Tripadvisor site. After reading glowing reviews, we booked the B&B for two nights. The suite we had was lovely. The host and staff were most accommodating. Breakfast was great. We parked our car at the Inn and walked to all the sites in historic Charleston that we had decided to visit. We are already planning a return trip!

Nice people. Good location. Nice historic home. A few problems - the noise on the street front, bed quality not good (sloped into the middle), drunk people coming in all hours of the night. The downstairs bed is supposed to be haunted. The shower is so small and the head so high that you could not shower without washing your hair, even if you didn't want to. It was within walking distance to most everything. The breakfasts were good, but thankfully Terry put things out starting at 8:15 and some of our tours began at 9:00...a little rushed to make the tour. We would probably would stay somewhere else.

Our group stayed at the King George IV Inn, Charleston in late May, 2008. We cannot say enough about this inn. Located within walking distance to all attractions, beautiful rooms and the best guest services I have encountered even when comparing this to a large hotel. All rooms were beautiful, large & clean. My sister and I occupied the top floor and had 2 rooms with a shared bath which worked great. There are no elevators but the guest services helped us carry them up the stairs. Every day we spent time out on the front porch and relaxed with our friends with wine & cheese etc. An extensive breakfast was included daily and all guests met in one location so we had a chance to talk with other guests as well. The owners and their assistant Debbie helped us with any reservation or tour needs. Everyone was so friendly and nice which really helped make our stay a wonderful experience. You can really tell how much care has gone into this beautifully rennovated inn.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a few days in May. The inn is in a very good location, it's about 10 minute walk to the market area (where most of the restaurants, bars, are located. King Street which is where all of the department store shopping is is less than a block away. We stayed in room 4. The rooms serve their purpose. They're nice and old-fashioned. Ours was a 2 room suite with the bedroom, the living room (which had a small tv, which has about 70 channel choices) and a refrigerator, and the porch with a spiral staircase that led to the ground floor. The bathroom is small and the shower is extremely small, but then again you're dealing with a small inn, not a hotel. The only negative is that they're doing construction next door at the Physical Eductation Center so we were woken up around 7 a.m. each morning.

Every morning from 8:30 to 10:30 there is breakfast, which ranged from scrambled eggs, fruit, home baked bread, sausage patties, etc. Water and soda are available at a cost of 50 cents per bottle. You can also get snacks throughout the day however with the amount of food options that are available in Charleston, it's probably best just eating breakfast there. The staff was friendly although a little too chatty.

Overall, we were happy with our choice to stay here.

My sisters and I just returned from our annual sister-bonding trip. This was our first time in South Carolina and we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. Terry and Debra, along with their entire staff, proved to us the true meaning of “southern hospitality”. They did everything right, from making our reservations for a city tour, dinner and a ghost tour to getting us a dependable ride to the airport on our last day. Despite the fact that they had a major event coming up the following weekend (the marriage of their daughter) they went out of their way to provide us with wonderful service.

It is important to remember that you are staying in a two hundred year old house. If you are looking for a slick 4-star hotel, you will be disappointed. The Inn is old but beautifully furnished. The breakfast room is small but the service and food exceptional. Also, the breakfast room is open all day and you have a key to get in at night. There are snacks and beverages available 24/7.

The location, ½ block from King Street was great. Everything you could possibly want from restaurants to shops to house tours was easily within walking distance. There was no need for a car. I believe, with only four full days, the help of Terry, Debra and Debbie allowed us to see and do the maximum sightseeing.

I would definitely recommend the King George IV Inn to anyone.
