Lovely spot in the heart of Charleston and quiet despite being across the street from the touristy marketplace. Easy to get to from the airport. But no fitness room, pool, if you want (we do not). Breakfast is great in the room or in the dining room inside or al fresco.

Recently spent a Sunday and Monday night at the Planters Inn. I have to say that it's all about exceptions. Mine were high so the disappointments were noticeable. We had a suite with a nice view of the courtyard, which is lovely. Pretty, traditional furniture. We didn't actually try the fireplace but honestly, I think it did not have gas logs. TV over fireplace, not to modernity I guess. Here's what I missed. There was not a single piece of paper or pen in or on the lovely writing desk where the telephone was located. I know this because when the phone rang with someone calling to give directions to there house, my husband had to fish around in his bag to find a piece of paper and pen so I could write down directions. Weird . Next, I always use a shower cap to wash my face and take a shower. No shower cap. Next, dirty spots on the pretty carpet in front of the sofa. Where one sits. Noticeable. Gross. Bathroom, no tub, just a shower. In a suite. Finally, Gilchrist and Soames Toiletries, not bad, not good. Just Meh. Finally, valet parking is a joke. Checking out we had to wait 45 minutes for the bellman who had gone to get the car. 45 minutes. So for a special getaway in Charleston, the Planters Inn was not so special. We didn't eat any meals, we did get a drink from the tiny bar and take it into the courtyard for a nightcap, which was lovely. Don't know what we would have done if the weather had not been so nice. So all in all, despite the great location and nice first impression, two days later I would have a hard time recommending it. Again, it's all about exceptions. We don't stay at upscale hotels as a rule so this was definitely a disappointment.
