“Wonderful again!”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

The Planters Inn is a wonderful place to stay in Charleston SC. It is not only beautiful but very clean and well kept. The staff is great. They are so kind and helpful. The rooms are large with great comfortable beds. Not only is Planters Inn a great place to sleep and relax but also a fantastic location to see Charleston. It is across the street from the old market and within easy walking distance of many shops, restaurants and beautiful historic sites. Hands down one of my favorite places to stay!

I knew I would love my 4-day stay at this splendid hotel before I ever arrived. Carolyn Scheider (Corporate Director) handled my reservation on the phone and although the hotel was fully booked with no available rooms she went out of her way to try and help me by creating a wait list. She called the very next day informing me of a cancellation that rendered a room available. Although it was not my preferred room (Deluxe King overlooking the magnificant grounds), I didn't mind because I was so thrilled to be able to stay at the Planter's Inn. I received another call from her about a week later notifying me that she was fortunately able to secure my desired room. Planter's Inn epitomizes Southern hospitality and it will not disappoint. Be sure to sample the delicious complimentary fruity iced tea and lemonade in the charming parlor and also try the homemade granola at breakfast in the outstanding Peninsula Grill. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The housekeeping staff was excellent and even made sure the nightly treats brought to my room were to my liking. I highly recommend it and will definitely return to Planter's Inn the next time I visit Charleston.

Room Tip: Rooms in building across the garden are quieter. Ask for Deluxe King with shared patio. Lovely!!!

We stayed in a beautiful room. Becasue it was our anniversary the hotel sent up chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. The room was well decorated and very clean. Teh cleaning staff did a great job straighten our room each morning and night. The front desk staff was very helpful. Would most definitlety stay here again. the only complaint was that the bed was kind of lumpy, but overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the King Delux. Although the bed was kind of lumpy.

My brother, his wife and I spent several days at the Planters Inn in Charleston, a Relais and Chateau affiliated hotel. Not only is the Planters Inn perfectly located in the historic district, but a respite even in the midst of a beautiful southern city. The rooms are well appointed and quiet, the restaurant and bar first class, and the staff, particularly the front desk/concierge was as helpful as could be desired. They arranged for personal tours of Charleston, pedicab rides around town, helped organize our plans for the day and spots to eat. There is a lovely lounge with refreshments available. It could not have been a lovelier stay - and Charleston is fabulous.

Room Tip: There are two buildings to choose from with a courtyard in between. My room on the Piazza, a large...

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at this charming and well situated hotel. The rooms are beautifully furnished with colonial designed decor. The hotel is perfectly situated in walk to anywhere location. The concierge was helpful in arranging tours. The Peninsula Grill offers a bountiful inexpensively priced breakfast: a big surprise! We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel, which was very good, but not over the top.

We would definitely return! Loved it!

My wife and I enjoyed our two-day stay very much. The inn is nicely decorated, both in common spaces and our room. The location is terrific. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and reasonably large. The inn's restaurant (Planter's Grill) is outstanding with excellent food and service. The restaurant and inn are not inexpensive, but worth it.

From what I can gather, staying at a nice hotel in a good location for walking historic Charleston is a surprisingly expensive undertaking, and many of the hotels are fully booked well in advance. Using tripadvisor as a guide I settled on the Planter's Inn and booked their last standard king room for $400/night. The lobby and adjoining lounge areas have a feeling of relaxed elegance and our room was spacious, well appointed, and very quiet despite being across from the market. The reception staff is gracious and welcoming and made great efforts to help us plan our time in Charleston (including recommending Oyster Point Tours to us which became the highlight of our stay) The hotel breakfast is a nice assortment of al a carte items or continental breakfast and is very reasonably priced. You can even order the Peninsula Grill's famous coconut cake for breakfast.
The hotel has a great location - all of historic Charleston's restaurants, shopping and landmarks are within pleasant walking distances. We did rent a car for one day from a Budget location a few blocks from the hotel so we were able to visit Mt Pleasant and a few of the plantations along the Ashely River.
All in all a very lovely hotel, we would happily return.

Room Tip: Make dinner reservations well in advance for the hotel's Peninsula Grill, our finest meal in Cha...
