“Not too good to be true!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We have traveled and lived around the world so we have become very fussy when it comes to hotel stays. The Planters Inn blew us away on all accounts. Every staff member was delightful and helpful. Our room was beautifully equipped. Dinner at The Peninsula is out of this world. We will call this "home" when we are back in Charleston!

Dear Dantesfamily,
A very simple, concise, and well worded review from your recent visit. A self proclaimed “fussy traveller" is a moniker we are pleased to hear was met with flying colors of appreciation. However, the best compliment of all in your review is the most important tip of all…. “WE WILL CALL THIS HOME WHEN WE ARE BACK IN CHARLESTON”.
We can ask for no better compliment than this and thank you from our entire team.
Tell us when you are ready to return!
Best Wishes,
Bradley Dickerson, Hotel Manager

We have just spent an amazing Spoleto Festival weekend at the Planter's Inn. Every one of the staff, from the front desk to the hotel operator, was solicitous, polite, and ever ready to help. We had our teenage granddaughter with us, and she received the same attention and respect as any adult in the hotel. In addition, the concierge made sure that last minute tickets were secured, dinner reservations were confirmed, and any requests/concerns were addressed in a warm and welcoming manner. The location was perfect for Spoleto and we were able to walk everywhere.
The Planter's Inn lived up to the Relais & Chateaux reputation for excellence and quality. The rooms were immaculate, elegant, and spacious. And the Peninsula Grill Restaurant was the equal of any fine dining establishment across the country.

I was lucky enough to be whisked away to the Planters Inn the night my fiance proposed. I was aware it was a nice hotel, but was completely blown away by the levels of service and luxury that we experienced during our stay. The staff of the hotel and restaurant went above and beyond to make our celebratory night as special as possible. Our room was gorgeous and comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. I look forward to returning!

Dear Rebecca398,
We are thrilled to hear you said YES and we were able to share in such a monumental memory as your proposal! . Thank you to your fiancé for selecting us as his proposal destination; as it is always a pleasure to witness such occasions. Our team of professionals takes great care in assisting with the "behind the scenes" preparations for such events and our staff enjoy the participation almost as much as our guests that become almost like family. We appreciate your kind comments and truly look forward to assisting you on many years to come with anniversary , birthdays or simply the occasional getaway. On behalf of the entire team, we appreciate your business and look forward to your return.

Best Wishes and Good Luck with the Wedding planning,

We just returned from our 3-night stay here, where we celebrated our 10th anniversary. Our king-sized bed was very comfortable and the room size was truly huge. The bathroom was clean and well-appointed. Tristan and Sarah were by far our two favorites at the reception desk, offering exceptional service and friendly hellos every time we passed the desk or had a question. Most other staff members were also helpful, but these two went above and beyond to ensure that our special visit was memorable. One suggestion for management: why not have a 4pm guest reception with the teas/lemonades/wine where a manager or staff member could make a 15 min appearance and mingle with guests? Other hotels in Charleston do this and it adds that extra personal touch with out of town guests who've never been to your hotel or city.

Dear janiac1,
Thank you for allowing us to share in your anniversary celebration and electing to stay with us during your visit to Charleston. We appreciate you acknowledgement of our staff and service; especially singling out Tristan and Sarah from our Guest Services team. As you mention, Planters Inn is known to offer some the finest and largest accommodations in the historic district. Our beautifully appointed rooms with high ceilings four poster beds are signature Planters Inn features. Thank you for the suggestions and the afternoon reception ideas; we will take them into consideration and hope you are able to join on your next trip to Charleston.

This was the first place my wife and I stayed during our time in Charleston, and we were very pleased. Every staff person, from the bellmen, front desk personnel, maids, and restaurant servers went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, very well maintained, and spotlessly clean. The hotel's location is perfect as well, in the heart if the historic district downtown. It is not an inexpensive hotel, but we felt it lived up to the expectations of its cost. Hospitality touches made it a winner.

Lovely hotel with helpful staff in a perfect location. Not the least bit pretentious. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The bathrooms could have had better lighting. It was difficult applying make-up.

Tea and lemonade are put out in the parlor every afternoon. It would have been perfect had there been cookies!

The Peninsula Grill is attached to the hotel and the food and ambiance are excellent.

Dear Annbmdcdonald,
Thank you for taking a moment to share your comments and suggestions following your most recent visit. Although we do offer an assortment of cookies in the parlor with during our evening coffee service, we shall take your “afternoon” suggestion under consideration. Regarding the lighting in our bathrooms; we hope the multiple dimmers that operate our sconce lighting and our overhead lighting in each guest bathroom were operating at full capacity during your visit as they have been known to create a quick solution to a dimly lit bath. In summation, we are pleased you enjoyed our “Charming hotel….helpful staff... perfect location and beautifully appointed rooms” and look forward to having you join us again in the future.

If you ever get the chance and want to stay right in the heart of downtown, and can afford even just one night, this is the place! Gorgeous room! Great location to walk anywhere in downtown you want to go! Excellent service and super friendly and helpful staff. They have got this down pat. We had a room in the newer building facing the court yard that was amazing. We ate at the Peninsula Grill for breakfast and the food was very good. While the stay was in the pricy side (especially for someone with a middle class background as myself) you get what you pay for. If I can afford to do it again I would in a heart beat! I absolutely loved my stay there. Btw, this was a splurge my husband and I did for our 5th wedding anniversary and they really did make it special.
