Fulton Lane Inn Charleston SC - Not a great Inn

We have just spent a weekend at Fulton Lane Inn Charleston and although the Inn is in a great position there is better accommodation available. Unless sleeping is the most important thing on your visit do NOT book room 227 - it faces a wall about one foot away and is very dark . The staff consist of college kids and although some of them were very pleasant and helpful some of them were not. As we had an early flight we asked for a wake up call which did not happen. The breakfasts were good - the pastries fresh - next time we'll stay somewhere else.

  • Disliked — The walls in front of our windows.

The Fulton Inn was a charming place! The staff was extra helpful with all of our requests. The room was large and roomy. It was very clean and the windows let in tons of light. We had the turndown service nightly which was loads of fun. Charleston was a wonderful place for us and we are looking forward to returning!

  • Liked — The staff was wonderful
  • Disliked — The television was sort of small and it made watching some basketball games difficult

Clearly, The Fulton Lane Inn was once grand. It is no longer. From the cramped, musty lobby (with the unfriendly concierge) to the industrial sized garbage can left out in the hallway near our room, this place seems to be living off its former glory.

The room was spacious but nothing special. The "breakfast" delivered to our room was less than ordinary. Service was non-existent. The location is really the only noteworthy thing about this down-in-the-mouth inn.

I look forward to my next visit to Charleston ... staying elsewhere.

My new husband and I just returned from a quick honeymoon in Charleston and absolutely loved our stay at Fulton Lane Inn. Excellent location on King Street amongst all the antique shops and within a few blocks of dozens of restaurants, the Battery, waterfront, etc. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our king room was charming, comfortable, spacious, and clean. We loved being able to use the public areas of the neighboring King's Courtyard Inn (owned by the Fulton Lane proprietors)-- had breakfast there, attended the evening wine hour every night, and used the jacuzzi out back. We both highly recommend Fulton Lane... you can't go wrong there!

We were booked into the Fulton Lane Inn by the Charleston Visitors Center after a horrible night at another hotel (large chain). We were given an incredibly low rate for a large King room with a charming canopy bed. The room and bath were spotless! The room view was bad, but after the awful night before all I really wanted was a clean room. The Fulton Inn definitely came thru for us! The staff was courteous and very accommodating. The complimentary breakfast (continental) delivered to our room the next morning was a treat! We will definitely stay there again as the location on King Street couldn't have been better.
Their parking situation, however is a nightmare! The parking spots are designed for mini-coupes, not regular or full-sized cars. Be prepared to squeeze into a spot and pray no one parks beside you! Parking was an extra fee but you could pick up a card at the Inn that alllowed in/out priviledges.

This charming Inn was way more than me and my mom expected it to be. Great location, nice staff, big room with big beds and bathroom, breakfast delivered to room...
It had a nice atmoshpere and we enjoyed it a lot. Everything was clean and the staff cared about us.
All in all, for the price we paid the Inn was above average, it was excellent!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A romantic hideaway in America’s most enchanting city, The Fulton Lane Inn is private, intimate and exceptionally accommodating. The Fulton Lane Inn surrounds you with the comfort and gracious ambiance of a bygone era. Many of our spacious rooms feature oversized whirlpool baths and luxurious canopied beds, draped with hand strung netting. Other rooms boast cathedral ceilings and several offer fireplaces.Throughout, soaring windows frame captivating vistas of the city's historic skyline, punctuated with the many trademark church spires. The charm and spirit of the Old South live on in this historic inn, built by the family of Confederate blockade runner John Rugheimer. Regarded as the most sophisticated city in America, antebellum Charleston was the cradle of Southern gentility. The proper Charleston home then welcomed summer's casual pace by covering formal furnishings in airy muslin, replacing wool carpets with sisal, and positioning shutters to admit fresh breezes and to provide gentle shade. At the Fulton Lane Inn, that spirit has been beautifully recaptured. Here, light filters softly through louvered shades, casting an inviting glow on lush plants. The patina of fine woods, natural textures and soft pastels invite you to indulge in the simple pleasures of a more gracious time. During your stay, you'll be pampered with complimentary continental breakfast delivered to your room each morning. Our traditional Southern hospitality continues with sherry in the lobby each evening. Of course, our concierge is always at hand to attend to your every need. You're just a mere stroll from the famous harbor, historic homes and attractions. The Fulton Lane Inn is situated just off King Street, tucked away on a pedestrian lane in the heart of the city's famous historic district. The inn is literally surrounded by countless fascinating boutiques, scores of antique shops and elegant restaurants. There are countless ways to enjoy the Fulton Lane Inn. ... more   less
