Owner description: There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks. Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST). ~Look for the Red Sash~ Our symbol of a quality horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina.

Had a great carriage ride on Easter Weekend. We had Colby the oldest horse that works the carriage ride which caused the ride to be a little slow but it was okay. The weather was beautiful and the tour guide was very helpful. Would definitely use again if ever in Charleston.

We took the Old South Carriage Company tour during our recent visit to Charleston. What a great way to get an introduction to this beautiful city. Our guide took us all around the area, giving us insight into the interesting history of Charleston. We trotted past a house where some of Gone With The Wind was filmed. We got to go along the waterfront. Our guide explained little details about the round numbered plaques on some of the old houses (in the old days, they were used to show you had paid to belong to a fire brigade company, so the fire department would come and put out the fire if your house burned). Our guide explained why all the entrances to the houses faced south . . according the legend . . . .they felt nothing good ever came from facing north. She explained about the tradition of the open doors and the verandas. When the door to the street was opened, the lady of the house was ready to receive visitors. Because it is so hot in Charleston, after the ladies had finished receiving their visitors, they would remove much of their clothing and sit in their upstairs verandas wearing little but their undergarments. Even though they were in plain view from the street, if a gentlemen were to pass by the house, and saw the downstairs door closed, he must turn his head away so as not to even appear to be looking at the gentle woman cooling off on the veranda. If he did not turn away, he would be banned from polite society.

We learned so much on this tour, and it gave us an opportunity to decide which areas we wanted to explore on foot on our own. Our guide was so knowledgeable and fun. Definitely a not to be missed experience.

This was a great way to kick-off our visit to Charleston. The tour guide was very informative and friendly. It would have been nice if it went down Rainbow Row though.

A friend from Charleston recommended Old South Carriage Company and I'm so glad she did. The tour was easy to book online and easy to find. Our tour guide, Rebel, was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. I highly recommend using Old South Carriage Company.

This was a great carriage tour and we enjoyed the relaxing ride around the city of Charleston. We were lucky enough to get the tour that included Rainbow Row, The Battery, as well as several beautiful homes! Our guide was great and she was very well versed & seemed very educated on the city's history. Would definately recommend this Carriage Company!
