I give the staff a 5 star rating. They demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility for their guests’ experience and this truly promotes the feeling of vacation. This was consistent throughout our 4 day stay from the concierge, bellman, cleaning person, restaurant waitstaff. This staff is well managed given the responsiveness, knowledge and solicitude which poured forth. Also worth noting is the restaurant (Circa 1886) which is outstanding. The inn is in a quiet location but an accessible walk to main attractions.

While I understand this is a historic home, in my opinion (and reasonable minds will differ), the inn itself is in need of refreshing. The decor is tired and dark. There were some maintenance issues (whirlpool tub wasn’t working and part unavailable quickly to fix; I overheard another guest mentioning their tub not usable). Our room had water staining on ceiling and other dirty markings and the bathroom exhaust fan and second fan for tub was as old and noisy as the one in our house which needs replacing. There was a propane smell from gas fireplace that was rectified by turning off the pilot flame and because the tub wasn’t working there were vague smells from the drain trap. These clearly are not hardships. They do make me pause, however, given the room rates. It was an enjoyable stay in an old home which would benefit from some upgrades of paint, plumbing and venting:).

This truly is a mansion. As soon as you walk through the well curated and cared for gardens, through the grand and well kept historical doors, you are welcomed. The staff is always helpful and courteous. The rooms are large and airy. They went out of their way to provide me with a balcony, which I fully enjoyed in the evenings. The soaker tubs are large and both of my rooms, the bedroom and the bathroom, had fireplaces. They were cozy and enchanting on cool nights. Housekeeping is attentive, leaving weather forecasts for your home locale and for Charleston, as well as chocolates made on the property. They aren’t stingy with toiletries or towels, and that’s appreciated. Breakfast from their restaurant, Circa 1886, is included, and is not your ordinary complimentary breakfast. We had the frittata, avocado toast, homemade yogurt and granola, and the pancakes, all good. They have evening hor d'oeuvres made by Circa 1886 as well, and complimentary wine, sherry, and other spirits out at all times. They also include a fridge stocked with drinks daily—sodas, sparkling water, regular water. Like the last independent historic inn I stayed in, the bed was much firmer than I prefer, but that’s the only thing that wasn’t perfect. This place is luxurious and beautiful. I wish we had more time to spend here to explore its original structures, antiques, stained glass, and hidden corners. The cupola offered gorgeous 360 degree views. Happy we had this experience.

This our 4th stay at Wentworth Mansion. We remain 100% impressed with the comfort and service here and will, no doubt, return. The mansion provides a peaceful and romantic atmosphere. Do patronize the Circa restaurant in the old carriage house.

Truly excellent service in beautiful gilded age mansion. The rooms are wonderful, comfortable and luxurious. Everything is included so one less worry. Staff was very knowledgeable about the history of the house and of course what to do and see in the area. The view form the copula is stunning, you can see in all directions all of Charleston. Jetted tub, gas fireplace, turndown service, etc.

I can say this was the best luxurious hotel experience ever. The service and the amenities were amazing. The staff was so kind and helpful. Our room was huge with jacuzzi and sitting areas. Even had a patio. The breakfast was a sit down restaurant at Circa 1886 with only registered guests being able to attend. The menu and the service was the best breakfast I have ever had.
