The Vendue Inn is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at! Impeccable service, great location, friendly, knowledgable staff, a delicious free breakfast and a very welcoming atmosphere. This hotel is historical and elegant, yet cozy and comfortable. Who would stay anywhere else in beautiful Charleston?

Room Tip: If you like the charm of rustic elegance pick room 350. It is across the street (no big deal) and is on the top floor all by itself.

Excellent location: close to market; waterfront; historic homes; restaurants; DASH trolley stops. Our classic queen room (215) was tastefully furnished with antiques, and the bed was very comfortable. The large bathroom with shower was well done. The full breakfast was excellent (we did not dine in the Inn's two restaurants).

The Vendue Inn was originally a series of late 18th-early 19th Century warehouses serving the Charleston waterfront. Over the years the warehouses were connected and then converted into the hotel and its guest rooms. Each room is unique with armoires instead of closets (we peaked into several of the rooms and all were lovely). Although the hotel has 65 rooms, it has the "feel" of a smaller bed and breakfast.

Sign up for the loyalty club. The full breakfast and the manager's afternoon wine & cheese receptions are well worth it. The Inn's bicycles for loan was a nice touch. We had not ridden in probably 30 years, but thoroughly enjoyed a ride down to the Battery and back. We found that cookies & milk each evening was a great way to end a long day of walking tours.

We cannot say too much in praise of the staff. All were professional, courteous, and attentive to our every need. It was clear that all were very proud of their hotel and eager to please its guests.

We went to Charleston as a quick get-away for our 30th anniversary. We had such an enjoyable stay, we plan on going back soon. There is absolutely no reason we would not stay again at the Vendue Inn.

I'll start with the positive which, quite frankly, outweighs the negative. The staff was very professional and attentive, from the moment we arrived until the morning of our departure. The location is great - convenient to restaurants and points of interest in downtown Charleston. The lobby and common areas on the main floor are first rate. Unfortunately, our room, especially the bathroom, was not up to the standards of a hotel falling within this price range. The brass finish on the tub hardware had worn down to the underlying silver colored metal in places. The sink countertop had warped to the point where caulking had been applied - poorly, I might add - to the underside to fill in the resulting gaps. The shower was an insert with a flimsy glass door. The water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent. The lock on the door leading from the hallway into the room was insubstantial. I fully agree with the recent comments that the Vendue Inn is becoming "old and tired" and needs a "facelift." Fix that, and its a 4.5 property.

Wanted a special place for our first visit to Charleston in over 35 years and happily landed at the Vendue Inn. Our deciding factors revolved around the lots of little extras they offered and we were not disappointed. A truly excellent included breakfast (just sign up ahead of time - on line- you needn't book a room to do so), the best chocolate chip cookies this side of Grandma's and a great Manager's reception every afternoon with wine, beer and soft drinks and a better than expected array of canapes. We had a classic FP King and my very fussy wife loved the mattress. The staff was very helpful - each and every one. All obviously took pride in the Inn and their role within it. Never once did they refer us to someone else for an answer or requested service. Instead the answer and attitude was I'll take care of it" or "I'll see that gets done". Never did meet the manager, but If I had, I would have congratulated her on the quailty of the staff.

Location is great right near the water. The service was top notch and our King Suite was more than enough space with a gas fire place, nice size TV, and King size bed. Loved the rooftop bar and the nightly wine and cheese. Vendue was a nice combination of a B&B and Hotel. You get the best of both worlds. It was was very close to all the local bars and restaurants. We walked/biked everywhere. LOVED Vendue! Only downside was that they were doing renovations on our section of the hotel so getting to our room was a bit inconvenient, but that was just a timing issue and I believe was reflected in the price we paid for our huge suite! This was nearly a year ago so it's a non-issue now.
