“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2014

We stayed with some good friends who are Blue-Green time share owners. The location is perfect and grounds are lovely. The unit itself needs plenty updating. The furniture was old and falling apart and the kitchen was poorly set up. We were only there two days and it was good for us but would not have suited if we were staying any longer.

We are Bluegreen owners & LUV staying here. The rooms are always clean & tidy. Check-in is fast & they have valet parking. After settling in, front desk calls to make sure everything is pleasant. We always get a one bedroom or studio & they have working fireplaces & living rooms, dining rooms, and separate bedrooms. The Market is close for convenient shopping. Several stores & restaurants line the streets. Horse/buggy tours, plantation tours, ghost tours, etc. The resort is quaint; lots of history. Employees are polite & courteous at all times. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The rooms are non-smoking. If you're smokers, ask for the courtyard rooms.

For the record, I am not a Blue-Green time share owner. We stayed here on behalf of a friend who is.
We had 2 studio rooms (216,217) and requested to have 2 beds in each room, which was honored. There was a good size bathroom, kitchenette area and a full living room including a fireplace. It you happen to have full occupancy, I would ask for room 217 as it was a corner room and much bigger than the "same" room next door.
Check in was fine. The valet was busy so we ended up unloading our own things. Not a big deal.
As others have said, the floors appear to be original wood planks so they are a little uneven and creaky, but not an issue. I thought it was charming. We did, however, hear the people above us.
There is a lovely courtyard which has shaded seating. The lobby has complimentary coffee and tea, although there was a full size coffee pot in the room.
You are super close to the market area and all the great restaurants on East Bay Street. I would plan on walking most everywhere, unless you go to upper King Street. Then a pedicab might be the way to go.
Overall, a great place. The bathroom could use a little touch-up work, but otherwise, the rooms were comfy and clean. I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 217 is a larger-than-average studio room. Sleeps 4 and still has a large living room area.

We enjoyed our stay in a one bedroom suite in the Knapp Building at The Lodge Alley Inn except for the noise, smell, and view.
Unfortunately, there was heavy rain when we arrived. The valet attendent was pretty responsive about helping us unload our vehicle once we pulled up and told him we were checking in.
The room was older but nice. Our room had hardwood floors, a fireplace, and a full kitchen. The only downside was that we were on top of a cigar bar and could hear music and talking until after midnight. We could also here the people above us walking around. There was a lingering odor of wood/cigars in the room.
The room did not come with a DVD player. The front desk quickly provided us with one after we asked.
Our view was not that great. We were facing a wall in the living room and had a view of the street from the bedroom. It would have been nice to have a view of the courtyard.
Other than the room deficiencies, the customer service was great. The front desk and valet attendents were helpful and courteous. The Bluegreen folks provided one of the best updates I have had since joining the club.

Stayed only one night, but really enjoyed the stay. Super clean and close to a lot of things. Didn't like to pay for parking but understand due to limited parking available downtown. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed at this hotel for one night. Great location, very spacious suite rooms but lack of decor and taste. Bathrooms were small and old. Great for families but not convenient for couples. Lack of counter space and storage. Had to put belongings on the floor not very comfortable overall.

A nice price on Priceline led us to the Lodge Alley Inn.

Arrival at the hotel was easy. They are on a busy street, but have a parking lane in front of the hotel to pull up and check-in. We arrived early in the day and our room wasn't yet ready, so we gave our bags to the bell-desk and headed out for lunch.

The hotel parked our car and took our bags to our room once it was ready. They notified us by cellphone that we were checked in. Upon arrival we found our bags in our room. This is a timeshare resort, so beware the overly friendly "concierge".

We received a studio room and it was very nice. Large, with a 4 poster bed, fireplace, and balcony overlooking the courtyard. The wood floorboards were a little loose and made a lot of noise and the room (especially the bathroom) tilted a little bit, but we wrote that off to being in an old building. We never felt unsafe.

Cleanliness was decent. Everything in the room worked fine. There was a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and microwave.

The best feature of the hotel is it's location. It is located in the center of historic Charleston and as a result is close to everything.

The biggest complaint (besides the large cockroach in the shower), was the lack of parking. When we went check out, we asked if we could leave our car in valet for several hours while we got brunch. The front desk agent got a pained look on her face and explained that they have limited spaces. She seemed willing to allow us to do it, but obviously didn't want to. We decided just to get the car out and find a new parking space.

Overall, a quirky hotel (timeshare) in a great location. If I traveled to Charleston again and got a good price on a room then I wouldn't hesitate to book it again.
