The location is one of the best in this terrific city. It is old and that is what we liked when we stayed there in 2005, but they need to refurbish some things and spruce it up, they have an analog TV in the bedroom, WOW. They did finally get WIFI. Some of the staff need a lesson on smiling. If it were not one of my timeshares I would probably look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Do not get the spiral stair case units

The Lodge Alley Inn is a Bluegreen property. We are owners and have stayed here once, in the fall of 2012. We are planning a trip there in August 2013.

Upon Arrival you'll be greeted by valets. They're efficient and friendly. The old resort is comprised of what once were warehouses. As with all architecture in the historic city of Charleston, the original buildings are old and have strict codes regarding refurbishing. While many can be dressed up quite nicely, structural integrity must be maintained, so if you're staying at the Lodge Alley, you can expect to have the most modern in conveniences, but don't be shocked if the floors sag. It does add quite nicely to the charm of staying in such historically preserved buildings.

Lodge Alley is conveniently located to the craft market, horse and buggy rides, and many great restaurants.

I'd recommend this place. The fact that I'm going back here for a second vacation is proof of that.

Best Regards,

Room Tip: Get a room in the little building that faces the courtyard. Very quaint.

The reviews that rate this place poorly really must be the sort that complain about everything. The Lodge Alley is in an awesome location. We had a one bedroom loft and because of the busy weekend had two stay in two units for them to accommodate us. They moved the bags and made the process very seamless.

We had both a courtyard and a street view room, both were almost identical. Very clean, etc. The beds were very comfortable. The spiral staircases were a bit of a pain to drag the luggage up and then down on departure, but very doable.

The kitchen was nice, we only used the refrigerator, but it worked just fine. There is a flat screen in the living room and an older tv in the bedroom, both worked fine.

Internet is free and worked flawlessly. The courtyard is beautiful, and the staff couldn't be more nice. Everyone there was super nice. No one hassled us about a timeshare, ever.

I was pretty worried after reading some of the more recent reviews. We will definitely stay at the Lodge Alley again. I think those that review it poorly are expecting 5 star elegance. This is old school Charleston not the Ritz. I suppose if I was spending every waking moment in my room, I might look for a place with a balcony and a King Size bed and no loft...but we were in the room at night only and the rest of the time we were out doing things...

Room Tip: We stayed in the one bedroom loft rooms, which are like 218-230. Even numbered rooms are streetside...

Stayed At This Wonderful Inn With My Daughters To Celebrate My Oldest Daughter's 40Th Birthday And Had A Very Nice 1 Bedroom Place. The Unit Was Fully Equipped With All Kitchen Utensils And Dishes For 4. Bathroom Was A Little Small But Had Nice Amenities. Huge Walk In Closet. Very Nice Gas Fireplace An Extra Pleasure For This Dreary Weekend. The Only Drawback Was The SOfabed, Very Thin Mattress And Quite Uncomfortable. Otherwise Great Stay.

I went to Charleston for a girls trip with two of my other friends for a long weekend. We are in our late 20s and early 30s. We found the Lodge Alley Inn on craigslist and didn't have high expectations. We were very pleased with the location. We could walk to most restaurants, bars and attractions easily from our hotel. We felt like we were in the middle of everything and could always quickly run back to the room if we needed something. In addition, the ambiance of the hotel was great. The hotel was originally an old warehouse that was renovated and the brick interior, wood floors, and cozy setting were great for feeling like we were a part of Charleston. Our room, 103 I believe, was very clean and spacious. We had a one bedroom and I slept on the pullout couch. We had a fridge and microwave also. Our room was never cleaned, but that was fine with us. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room, since there is so much to do in Charleston, but enjoyed the convenient location and quaint feel the Lodge Alley Inn provided.
