We stayed in an upstairs bedroom that was nicely done. Would definitely suggest upstairs bedroom if you can do the steps. Appreciated the efforts during our stay to help us understand the history of John Rutledge. Maid service was efficient and enjoyed the turndown service in the evening. Breakfast was nice, the food was good and service in the courtyard was efficient. Wi-Fi was inconsistent and shower had some mildew in it. While the staff was nice, they weren't as knowledgeable as one would hope for this type of operation. Coffee service in the morning was a nice touch, but not consistent. The location is a huge plus.

Room Tip: Third level if you can do the steps

Our stay in Charleston, SC was wonderful, in most part due to the pleasant experience we had at the John Rutledge House Inn. Besides the comfortable bed, delicious breakfast, helpful staff and lovely accommodations, the idea of staying in the home of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was fantastic. The location was also very convenient to historic places of interest and wonderful restaurants.

We really enjoyed our stay at the lovely and historic John Rutledge House Inn. My husband and I stayed in one of the lower level rooms in the main house. The king bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was spacious and well appointed. We enjoyed the afternoon tea; a number of unique and delicious pastries were served. We really enjoyed the complimentary in-room breakfast. The service is attentive. The location is wonderful, very close to the Battery, South of Broad, Waterfront Park, and all points of interest in the French Quarter. We hope to return!

We enjoyed our stay at JRH, the Inn is lovely, convenient to everything in historic Charleston and had some nice ammenities. Breakfast was good and we thought the menu choices were excellent. Patrice was very helpful. The only area for improvement we experienced was the room cleanliness was not up to par. After mentioning it, we were scheduled for a thorough cleaning but, even afterwards it was not "spit spot" (was never vacuumed, the sink and bath needed a good scrubbing, needed to be dusted, the windows in the room have mold on them and need a good toothbrush cleaning with bleach). One more suggestion is that it may be helpful to add a note on the carriage house doors saying "please close gently in consideration of guests". All in all we were satisfied with and enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: You may want a 2nd floor room in the carriage house to avoid being woken up by the door.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the John Rutledge House Inn. We appreciate your comments about our complimentary breakfast. We just created a new menu and are happy to have such positive feedback. We apologize for the housekeeping issues. This is not in keeping with our standard of excellence and we are sorry for the problems you encountered. When our innkeeper learned of the issues, she had the housekeeper tend to each item – including vacuuming, dusting, etc. Your comments are appreciated as we work towards 100% guest satisfaction. We look forward to visiting with you again and thank you for your recommendation.

Stayed Labor Day weekend in the Ashley Carriage House. The rooms were refreshingly cool and the breakfast options were delicious. Elizabeth, Katie and Sal were specifically very helpful and the inn was in very good shape. It is a short walk to Market street, Rainbow Row and Waterfront park.
