We came for our anniversary and enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nice and it was so nice to have parking in the city. It was only a few blocks from Market street and near lots of shopping and restaurants. Would highly recommend it!

No parking makes this place a bad value, very tiny parking in back, the room is nice but small tv. Downtown location n close to market. Have enough parking for 11 cars n 3 more parked on side with one spot used for worker.

As first time visitors to Charleston, my husband and I did research on where to stay, and we are so happy that we decided to stay at Barksdale. They are located right in historic Charleston, which made walking to restuarants and stores so easy. They offer free, private parking which was awesome. When we checked in, we were personally walked up to our room and given an overview of where to get ice, about breakfast, etc. We had our breakfast brought up to our room each morning at a time of our choosing, which was so nice and free! It was a nice addition and a good continental breakfast. The room and bathroom were both clean and we had zero problems with noise of any kind. We really felt like we were guests at someones home. The staff are all very friendly, from the girl who checked us in, to the lady that brought up our breakfast tray. Charleston is such a historical city, so staying in a historic home really makes it more fun. We enjoyed staying at the Barksdale and will definitely stay there again.

There have been some negative reviews about this place, but personally, as one who is used to chain hotels, this was a delightful and pleasant change. I was given a room in the old coach house (actually rebuilt in the 1980s). It was very nicely furnished, decorated and very quiet. I slept really well in a firm and comfortable bed with nice sheets. Breakfast was good, with a decent choice of quality breakfast foods. There was always something freshly baked. Kelly, the manager, was particularly helpful, polite, friendly and efficient. The location is excellent for getting around on foot, so park the car in the Inn car park and forget about it for a couple of days.

Photos are at time of check-in.

Room Tip: Coach house was quiet.

So glad we found the Barksdale House Inn on George Street. Great location, so close to the College of Charleston, where our daughter is a student, and to King and Meeting Streets. Parking is included, a huge plus in Charleston. The staff at Barksdale treats you very well, weekend breakfasts are wonderful, especially when you can eat on the back patio! We have visited a few times, and now bring a fan with us to add some background noise, as the inn does get very quiet. The rooms vary, some better lit or furnished than others, but the beds are very comfortable. Can’t wait for our next visit to the Barksdale!

The Barksdale Inn is nice, though not the "homey" B&B I had hoped for. The location is fabulous, just steps away from restaurants and shopping and super close to the College of Charleston. On-site parking was fantastic and the room price was good.

The room we stayed in on the 2nd floor was lovely and relatively comfortable. The only downside of the room is that it's very creaky so you could hear every time someone upstairs or in the hallway moved. But nobody was coming in or out at a late hour so it wasn't too bad. A third floor room is probably the way to go, likely much quieter. But it's a 200 year old house so creaking really is to be expected. There was also a dog who barked well into the evening, but fortunately it quieted down before we needed to sleep.

The biggest disappointment for me was that there was no real sitting area in the house or yard - no place inside or outside to curl up with a book and relax, something I have enjoyed at other B&Bs we have stayed at. Also breakfast was fine, but nothing to write home about. Just fruit, cereal, some small bagels, bread, and cold waffles. Certainly edible and acceptable, but nothing special.

Room Tip: Third floor is likely quieter - you won't hear people moving about upstairs.
