A little out of the way. Just a bit too far to walk to downtown so you need to use the trolly to come and go. The bug issue is that they are understaffed. From 4PM until 8PM there is only one attendant for this property and its sister property The Cannonboro Inn which is around the corner. A bigger issue is that there is no one available after 8PM. I don't know what would happen in case of an emergency.

Room Tip: Arrive before 4PM to get a good parking spot.

My husband and I were in Charleston to visit my son. We found the Ashley Inn to be the perfect place to stay! The breakfast each morning was outstanding. We found Jan and Pamela to be very friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect. It opened to the veranda and we loved sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful weather. The location is within walking distance to restaurants and shops and while we did not take advantage of them, bikes are available for guests who want to use them to get around town. We look forward to staying at the Ashley again.

Husband, visiting friend and I spent a long weekend in the 2-BR carriage house. Great to have the private hang-out space, reasonable price. There's a kitchen (minimally equipped) and 1 1/2 baths, so we did do some juggling when it came to taking showers in the one full bath. Carriage house stairs creaky and probably in need of repair--no way to silently sneak downstairs in the night there! Late afternoon wine & home-made goodies, great to come back to after a hard day touristing. Breakfasts good and staff pleasant. We did have to ask for more toilet paper and there were no paper towels in the kitchen, so housekeeping wasn't totally on the ball. Tradeoff on price is location--Ashley House is a bit out of the way--we drove back and forth to the historic district. However, there's at least one popular restaurant (voted best shrimp & grits) right around the corner.

Last week we had a "girls getaway" and chose the carriage house at the Ashley Inn. The carriage house was the most economical choice for the three of us and the accomodations where very nice...clean; comfortable beds; TV's in each bedroom, and in the sitting room down stairs! Having 1-1/2 baths was really nice although, the upstairs bath is very small and wouldn't suit everyone. Our second night, we encountered a problem with the thermostat and as soon as we told Jan, she arranged to have it serviced and it was perfect for the balance of our stay. Thanks for making our stay in Charleston so carefree and enjoyable!

This is a beautiful B & B! We were upgraded to a bigger room by phone before we arrived due to the queen room being available. Clean, cozy and comfortable! Loved the balcony with rocking chairs right out our door. And the hosts were very friendly and helpful. Jan provided us with bikes to tour Charleston...which was much less tiring than walking, plus we got to see more of this beautiful city. Breakfast was superb and the wine and goodies placed out for guests in the early evening was a nice treat. The restaurants within walking distance that the Ashley staff recommends, I would also recommend. Traffic was a little noisy, but probably because we aren't used to it since we live in a very quiet, rural area.
