We spent 3 nights at the 1837 B&B in Charleston, SC. The inn is beautifully refurbished from its 1800 origins. Our room was elegantly furnished with a 4-poster bed, a chest of drawers, an armoire with limited hanging space and a small refrigerator. The bathroom is small, but immaculately clean. The air conditioner works very well. The breakfasts are ample and delicious, with a time window of 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. However, you may order a continental breakfast before or after. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and will provide recommendations for sightseeing and dining. There is a piazza with rocking chairs and lounge chairs for sitting and enjoying the view. The inn is located just blocks from the bustling downtown shopping, dining and and sightseeing of Charleston. No car is necessary unless you want to do some sightseeing outside of town.

I have never written a review on this site but felt compelled to write a quick note about 1837. We recently spent a couple of nights at this lovely B & B. It was a wonderful experience. The room was clean and looked just like the picture on their website. Jane and Rick were both very friendly and accomodating. I must say...the breakfast here was absolutely delicious! I would rank it right up there with the top 3 restaurants we enjoyed while in Charleston...and that's saying A LOT because Charleston is culinary heaven! The desserts, served in the afternoon, were also wonderful AND the sweet tea (which is a big deal to me being a southern girl) was perfect! Jane actually told me to just get in the refrigerator and get some whenever I wanted. All and all...it was an incredible experience and I would not hesitate to recommend 1837 to anyone visiting Charleston.

Spent one night in carriage house room 2. Everything was great! The room was a touch small but very cute with exposed brick and a canopy bed (queen size). There was a fridge in the closet and tv in the cabinet so all of the modern amenities were there but tucked away. Bed was comfortable, my only complaint is that the air conditioner didn't have a recirc option so it pulled in extremely humid air from outside and couldn't dry it out. Breakfast was served anytime from 8:30-9:30 with coffee and a continental breakfast set out at 8:00. This was really nice since you could come as you pleased and not have to rush to breakfast. Food was good; egg pie, fruit, and monkey bread. They also have tea from 3-5.

The location was great and within walking distance of nearly everything which was awesome as parking in charleston can be challenging and expensive.

When I found this B&B I was really only looking for a one night reasonably priced place to stay while passing through charleston. I was all around impressed and would stay here again as well as recommend it to friends and family.

Charleston is a slice of heaven on earth and 1837 Bed and Breakfast is a gem. It is an absolutely charming B&B conveniently located in downtown Charleston. The authentic hospitality the staff will show you will lay the foundation for happy memories which will last a lifetime. Our room was 3-1 and is featured in the website’s homepage. It was very clean, comfortable, and absolutely lovely. The daily breakfasts were truly an event to be savored. The southern breakfast food was delicious, the breakfast room very comfortable and pretty, and the lively conversation with the other guests was facilitated by the staff’s ability to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. Both the staff and the guests are happy at 1837 and it was great fun to visit for four nights. I would like to thank Richard and Lynn (owners), Jane (the manager), Amanda, (the assistant mgr.), Emily and Kelsey (concierge staff). My wife and I highly recommend 1837 and will surely return to this unforgettable little treasure.

My husband and I just spent 6 nights at the 1837. The neighborhood was quiet and an easy walk to shopping, restaurants, tours, etc. Our room was beautifully furnished, spacious and clean. Breakfast and afternoon tea were fantastic. The best part of the 1837 is the staff - they are all friendly and so helpful in helping these first-time visitors get the most out of their visit. We will vacation in Charleston some day soon and when we go, we will be staying at the 1837.

Room Tip: We stayed in 3-3 - the back of the third floor. Quiet and well worth the 2 flights of stairs.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the 1837 and could not be more pleased. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the location is within a 10-15 minute walk to most tourist spots in town, the food (breakfast and afternoon desserts) were outstanding and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and just downright nice. We would absolutly reccomend the 1837 Bed and Breakfast.

This past weekend my wife had the pleasure of staying at this truly wonderful B&B in the heart of Charleston. There isn't a bad thing to say about "1837", as the quality of food, amenities, friendliness of staff (Amanda), which made the B&B not just a headquarters but also a respite. If anyone is interesting in staying in Charleston, THIS is THE place to stay! You will not be disappointed!
