We found this small restaurant not far from our hotel, The Mills House, and was looking for something different. We both tried the Pork Tenderloin which was marinated with rosemary and served over a bed of black eye peas and wilted greens with grilled sweet tea glazed sausages. I know . You have never heard of sweet tea glaze. Believe me, it was very delicious. The chef came out to check on each table. You need to find this place on Meeting Street

While back in one of our favorite cities, Charleston, SC this past weekend, we had breakfast at Toast restaurant for the first time. We were seated quickly and served our drinks immediately. The atmosphere was nice and laid back. Lots of folks reading the morning paper over the great coffee. Our meals came exactly as we ordered them, and were very tasty. Another plus for this restaurant: later that same evening we ducked in for a coffee to go as we were headed to The Waterfront Park, and they gave it to us at no charge. Toast...a classy restaurant. We will return!

An early afternoon stop at Toast provided lunch for me and breakfast for my husband. His yummy "meeting street" eggs, crab cake, egg and friend green tomato was a new twist on an eggs Benedict theme. My BLFGT (Bacon, lettuce, fried green tomato) sandwich was generous and delish! Fresh lettuce and lots of crispy bacon were complemented with hugh Fried green tomato slices. Both meals had wonderfully seasoned potatoes. Great sweet tea AND a walking cup of ice water to take out the door into the 100 degree day.

Having seen many good reviews of Toast, we gave it a try for breakfast and lunch on a recent Charleston visit. Lunch was fine with a tasty she crab soup and a grilled chicken sandwich. Unfortunately we were seated in a back room which was filled with young children who were not well-behaved. The noise and food on the floor certainly detracted from the dining experience. Breakfast was quieter as we were seated in the front dining room. The meal was a mixed bag: pancakes were quite ordinary and the corn beef hash was a bit heavy on the brine. Some people might like it but it was too vinegary for my taste. The coffee was nothing to write home (or TripAdvisor) about. Service was a bit slow. We overheard one waiter practically begging his table to write a good review on TripAdvisor and mention his name. A bit much I think. There are better places in Charleston for breakfast.

Stopped in during a brief rain shower after diner after looking for a few spots for dessert. It was a great choice. Super friendly staff including the bartender who was bouncing off the walls (guessing this is his normal state). They gave my daughter who was stuck in a wheelchair due to injury a towel to dry off. A genuinely friendly spot with an energetic and engaged staff. Earlier we had tried to stop for breakfast and it was packed so we passed but looked like a great spot for breakfast and dinner as well.

Oh... And the desserts were spectacular and fresh!
