This is a beautiful spot. Good trails, and swamp boardwalk. Very picturesque lakes, and right on the Ashley River. We didn't do the house tour, so cannot report on that. A nice, easy drive out from town. Suggest you bring a picnic and sit in the area near the petting zoo to eat. The Charleston Visitors Center can arrange discount tickets, and your hotel can probably provide free passes for the swamp tour.

Interesting plantation with lots and lots of history attached to it. After viewing the home (short tour) take the time to walk through the gardens and enjoy the view.

I had my wedding here, so I'm completely biased in it's favor. :D We had it in mid May. The flowers were all blooming, and it was sunny and gorgeous, and my best friend was thrilled that they had the petting zoo which her son loved. And everyone at the wedding LOVED walking the paths and spotting the little alligators in the water. I've already been three times, and I'll keep going! :D

The gardens were beautiful and still blooming even in January. I can't imagine how beautiful it will be in spring. It was interesting to see how well the family treated their slaves and the history behind the plantation house was also interesting to learn. It amazed me that the plantation has been passed down through 12 generations of the family.

We really enjoyed walking around Magnolia Plantation, even though it was cold. There are so many neat bridges and pathways, it is a joy for any nature lover. It was also a treat for me to see all the neat animals on the grounds like stunning peacocks (regular and white), roosters, guinea hens, horses, and other livestock. It was a lovely way to spend the morning.
