I guess if you are an advent Civil War buff, you would have liked this. To me, it was a small room with flags, books and some memorabilia for 5.00 a person. Small fee, but 3 of us. DEF was not worth 15.00 for tiny room of stuff.

This museum is in a former Masonic lodge and an enlistment place for many of the confederate veterans. After the war, the veterans came back to socialize here and, in the late 1890's the Daughter's of the Confederate soldiers started collecting their war memorials for display. The collection is quite impressive, but, as many other have pointed out, is located in a small area.

Definately worth going to, especially considering most travelers will be on Marketstreet anyway.

One tip: they have a great antique book collection on the civil war and will let you conduct research in at a table near the front. They'll even make copies for 25cents.

This museum has a wealth of objects collected by the daughters of the confederacy. Some are amazing and some are just piled atop of others... There are a lot of items packed in a fairly small place. Nothing really flows nor tells a story. This museum would benefit greatly from hiring someone to work their items into some sort of story. Imagine going to a yard sale and everything has some connection to the confederacy and you are essentially in the museum. If you are looking to find sheer volume of confederate objects - this is the pace for you. If you are hoping to learn about why they succeeded and what they stood for, perhaps you can find a good book at your local library.

Husband and I checked out the museum. They had a lot of interesting things packed inside a small space. You could spend a lot of time here just looking through everything. Great spot to stop and see some articles from the past, especially the flags, those were my favorites!

As a true civil war buff I have been to many battlefields, monuments, museums, etc and am not easily impressed. I found the Confederate Museum to be all I could hope for from the knowledgeable friendly staff to their amazing collection of southern artifacts including a lock of General Lee's hair it was well worth the visit and with an admission fee of only $5 you can't go wrong.
