This beautiful house has been filled with tacky items that the current owners "collect". It is SO not worth the $15. The architecture is beautiful, but the best thing about the house is the gardens and the vestibule, and you can see those without paying a dime.

The Calhoun Mansion is a waste of time and money. This was once a good tour, but the new owners have ruined the house. Most of the house is now off limits, yet the price has remained the same. The furnishings are innapropriate, tacky, and piled up all over the house. Our guide only knew a few snipets of history on the house, and seemed to think the highlight of the tour was that part of a movie was filmed there. She also spoke poorly of the other house museums and the passing carriage tours, showing particular venom for their guides. I found this to be very unprofessional and untrue as I enjoyed these activities in Charleston far more than the Calhoun Mansion tour. Save your money, take a carriage tour, or visit one of the other house museums. You'll be happy you did.

My husband and I went through this mansion and spent 30 dollars. Dont waste your money to take a tour of this mansion. Out of 35 rooms you will see 8. This is a privately owned residence and they have furnished it with thier own treasures and it does not go with the house. There are very old antiques that look bad and taxidermey throughout. I thought the house was cluttered and nothing like the previous owner had furnished. Although the gardens are beautiful you dont have to pay to see them.

I wish I had read these reviews before we spent $60 for the four of us. The house is beautiful in and of itself. And the sketching by Tiffany will cause you to gasp. But the current owners have it filled with outlandish 'stuff'. And it is filled to the gills with items that have no place in the home. Of course, it is their home and they can do with it what they will...but I left there feeling I had given $60 of my hard earned money to a very wealthy family to buy more garrish items with (like 2000 lb statues of a female budda-looking thing). The gardens are BEAUTIFUL! But you don't have to pay to see those....you see those on the way to the gift shop to buy the tour tickets.

Take my advice.....wander through the gardens then save your $15 each for something much better.

Although the mansion itself was quite lovely, and the history of the mansion was very fasinating, it just wasn't worth the 15$ to go inside and see two large halls and peer into a few rooms which are roped off. I just wished i could have taken a few pictures which is forbidded......Wendy Palmer....Tennessee
