“The gardens, kitchen and servants' quarters came alive”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

The Heyward-Washington House was built in 1772 and had the only historic kitchen in the city that was open to the public. The gardens behind the house were pretty and the kitchen was behind the house too. It was very interesting to see. You felt as if you went back in time. The house tour was nice and President George Washington bedded down there in 1791.

“Magnificent furnishings”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

What distinguishes this house form other restored mansions is the collection of unparralelled period furniture on display. The opulent house is lovingly restored, the guides are knowledgeable and helpful, but if you appreciate fine wood and furniture, this is a MUST SEE.

Very beautiful prerevolution home steeped in history. Furnishings alone are worth the visit.

“Historic and amazing”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

Loved this house and its tour. VERY old home - yes, Washington DID sleep here. Great tour guides. There is a Antiques Roadshow connection with a piece of furniture as well. Lovely walk and neighborhood around it as well.
