Owner description: The Aiken-Rhett House Museum, 48 Elizabeth Street, c. 1820, Is unique in many ways. For example, it remained in the hands of family descendents for 142 years until it was sold to The Charleston Museum and opened as a museum house in 1975. Historic Charleston Foundation purchased the house in 1995 and adopted a conservation approach to the interpretation of this important house and its outbuildings.

As others have stated, it's a 45 minute self guided tour of an Antebellum house that has not been restored - which we appreciated. My sister and I liked that you felt like you stepped back in time.

Most homes are restores so it was refreshing to see a home preserved from its era. The audio tour was very informative and the employees were very helpful. Would recommend!

Cool place, not restored, so you see how they did in that period. Good, deal, if you buy ticket to other place.

I was nervous when I found out it would be an audio tour at my own pace rather than a docent led tour. But it worked out very well. The slave quarters are well worth a view and make this home a definite spot to visit.

This was a very interesting home tour. It is not reatored so you can see how time has changed it. Individual audio tour is very interesting. Strongly recommend
