This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The lobby is tiny, however, with a tiny elevator.

We booked a room at a discounted price (available on their website but not by phone). (And beware of potential surcharges from Expedia. Better to go to Harbourview's own site.)

With a discounted room, I wasn't too surprised to be given one with an unlovely view of an electrical generation plant. What bothered me was that the hotel was very quiet on that weekday night, and I think it would be a better policy to give everyone a beautiful harbor view if the room would otherwise stand empty.

A small amount of stinginess marred an otherwise gracious hospitality on the part of the staff. We were given two complimentary water bottles, though our reservation was for four people. My children drank up the water and were still thirsty. I turned on the tap, and though I waited quite a while, the "cold" water continued to run warm. I stopped at the desk to ask about this. (Evidently the water in Charleston is something of a community problem in a number of ways.) I was offered two more bottles of water (not chilled -- that would have been a lovely touch), but what bothered me was that I was told that the two additional bottles would have to be considered our room's allottment for the second night of our stay. This seemed such a "nickel and dime" kind of thing for such a nice hotel to do. Especially since we were only getting 2 bottles for a room with 4 people. And especially since the hotel is aware that the warm tap water in the room is not an option. It was hot during our stay, so we ended up driving out to buy some bottled water. Seems like a small thing, but it was a real nuisance that day. And little things can sometimes make or break your stay.

The (complimentary) breakfast delivered to the room was very elegant, and the kids had a ball checking off the items they wanted from the little menu that you were to hang on your doorknob the night before.

The cookies and treats in the afternoon were very nice.

Overall, very nice -- and would have been perfect, if Mr. Scrooge hadn't been in charge of writing the bottled water policy!

My husband and I chose this hotel for our honeymoon after reading the wonderful reviews here on tripadvisor. We were so pleased with our choice! We stayed in the historic wing. The high ceilings, large window, and pretty decor made for a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere. The valet staff as well as those at the front desk were always willing to help with directions or a restaurant suggestion. My husband particularly liked the containers of M&Ms and Jelly Bellys!
The breakfast isn't fancy, but the food is good and always filled us up. The location of the hotel is great too!

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon in Charleston. This hotel was a hit, from the moment we arrived. Two attendants greeted us and helped us unpack. When we requested a room with a better view, they gave us a room with three walkout windows that looked over the harbour and vendue range, at the same price. A few minutes later, a complimentary bottle of champagne arrived from the hotel staff!

Between the excellent views, attentive service, convenient location to everything in the historic area and the complimentary snacks and breakfast, this was truly the most memorable hotel we have ever stayed at.

We stayed here a week and loved every second of it.

As a side note, the chocolate chip cookies are amazing!!

I was not expecting such a fine hotel, but the moment I stepped out of my car their service was none like I have ever experienced and I have stayed in some fine hotels. Their staff, especially the bellman at our arrival, showed customer service at it's finest. The room was lovely and beautifully decorated, with a view of the harbour. Rates were exceptional, especially for that area of town. We are used to paying at least $100 more per night in that area with 1/2 of the service. The snacks are complimentary and they do not nickel and dime you to death. The breakfast offering, although we did not take advantage of it, is also complimentary and we were sorry we did not enjoy it on the rooftop terrace. I cannot say anything negative about this property and will stay there from now on.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Harbourview Inn in Charleston. This hotel is in a historic building yet modern and exceptionally clean. The location is great and the staff are excellent. The hotel is beautiful and everything is first class all the way. Breakfast is plentiful, we loved the afternoon wine and cheese and evening cookies, and staff is always happy to help with reservations and recommendations. We have stayed at the Vendue Inn across the street twice, which is very nice, but this hotel is definitely superior (particularly with regard to the staff, who were much more helpful and approachable). I would not even think about staying anywhere else now. Also, for folks with children, there is a wonderful fountain right in front of the hotel in the waterfront park which kids love playing in, so make sure to bring their swimsuits if you are going in warm weather!

Rooms were spacious, well designed and comfortable. Though $350 per night seemed high for room #108, which is past its prime.
(Tub and sink enamel chipped, soap holder worn, ceiling in bathroom dirty, spots on the carpet) On the other hand, bed was very comfy, continental breakfast (included) was fresh and plentiful. The "atrium" was a very nice area to sit and read the paper, sip some tea or coffee ( which is offered 24 hours a day). Very decent quality complimentary wine is offered late afternoons. The location is very central to the historic district. You can walk to the market, several restaurants and stores. There's a cool fountain across the street, which seems very popular. I saw kids and adults alike, playing in it.
You can go for a nice jog around the battery or walk to a couple of small parks nearby.
Staff was friendly and helpful. I can recommend.

This Hotel was a great surpirse for us...we booked without any real knowledge of the hotel or the area...we found out how lucky we were after staying for two nights...unfortunately, the hotel was so popular, we were unable to extend out stay...we transferred to the Planter's Inn where we enjoyed the history...but found the rooms and facilites to be lacking. Stay here at the Harborview and you will experience the wonderful staff, the location and the great facilities (and the wine tasting in the evening is pretty nice too).
