“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

Our stay at the Harbourview Inn turned out to be very nice. With that said it was not what we expected which is my own oversight. At a quick glance the website, reviews, and price give the impression that it is more upscale than it really is with some nice marketing. At check in we were given a room that had some issues which were addressed after we discussed with the manager. We were moved to another room on the harbor side of the building. The rooms on the back side of the building have a view of a power station that is ominous / scary looking. I would recommend ensuring you not stay in those rooms especially at the price point of this hotel. Also no pool, restaurant, or bar. Ok that is all the bad stuff. The good news is the hotel and its staff work very hard to help you overcome these issues. Room service continental plus breakfast every morning or enjoy on the roof top helps with no restaurant . Wine, cheese, and fruit every-evening helps with no bar. Milk (or wine by request) and cookies each night. The location was good and 99% of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Hanks for seafood (Grouper) was awesome. Morning kayaking at Charleston Outdoor Adventures with our guide Cooper was great!

Room Tip: Go for the Harbor side of the building to avoid the power station view. Just because you are on the...

My trip to Charleston, SC was one of the most recent trips I've made in my quest to experience several great food cities. First it was New Orleans, then Savannah, and then to Charleston, SC. My stay at the Harbourview Inn provided a great convenient and central place to land to venture out to the many beautiful sites that Charleston has. The hotel is very nice, comfortable, spacious and the service is excellent. I had reserved my stay there through a discounted website so I expected a small room somewhere in the back of the hotel. I was pleased to find that I was given a front room, spacious and comfy with a full view of the harbour! The hotel is only steps away from many fabulous restaurants, clubs and shops. It is also a short drive out to beautiful Kiawah Island and many other interesting sites. The hotel serves its guests a complimentary breakfast every morning and it was served to my room by gracious staff. In the evenings there is a wine a cheese service which is relaxing and fun. I met several other guests over a glass of wine each evening. After having a wonderful dinner in one of the many incredible restaurants which are just steps away from the Inn, there would be milk and cookies waiting for us back at the hotel. You simply can't beat that kind of hospitality.

If you have never been to Charleston, SC, you must make this a destination. It has a unique mix of sights, history, scenery, art, music, theater, and dining is all within walking distance of the Harbourview Inn. This hotel does not have a bar or a restaurant - but who cares? Within 3 minutes walk there are at least 20 bars and restaurants of all shapes, sizes and tastes. The energy in this hotel is spent on making sure you sleep well and meeting your every need while you are in the hotel.

We stayed in a King Suite (402) on the 4th floor facing the harbor which had a beautiful view of the harbour, the walkway, the fountain and the park. However everyone has access to the same view on the rooftop deck area which has a number of tables with umbrellas and a large outdoor couch. A summer's evening hang out or breakfast up there is a treat.

The staff was extremely attentive to all of our needs. The bed in our room was memory foam, the doors are solid wood and very sound proof. The glass door to the balcony was double-paned and weather-sealed, the AC system was also very quiet and efficient. Sleeping was a delight.

The only issue we had with sleeping was an errant hotel alarm clock that went off despite being unplugged by us. The maid dutifully plugged it back in. I always unplug these hotel clocks to reset them to Off as you have to be a NASA scientist to figure out if these things are on or off. This one apparently memorized the last wake up call it had (7am) despite being powered off and on! The room curtains over the gorgeous balcony view also could use a bit more overlap to stop the sun in the morning but I understand from the manager that the rooms are about to get new curtains.

Tops on the list is that they do not nickel and dime you for every little thing.
We had at NO extra charge:
a. Continental breakfast delivered to the room, or on the sun deck, at whatever time we like in the morning. You typically order it via door hanger the evening before but if you forget, they will be happy to make it up for you on the spot in the morning.
b. Soft drinks and water in the fridge as well as high quality organic snack munchies.
c. Wine and Cheese hour in the afternoon.
d. Cookies and milk in the evening.
e. They found out it was my birthday and they delivered a chilled bottle of champagne to my room along with cheese and chocolate - no charge for this! This is how they treat birthday people!

IMO, the level of attention in this hotel is so high because the management and key staff are not distracted running a bar and a restaurant. The staff's total attention is on the room experience, the hotel ambiance, and ensuring you have a great experience in the hotel. In Charleston, this make perfect sense. They would be wasting their energy trying to reproduce the High Cotton bar and restaurant experience one block away. Besides, no one else serves Pimm's Cup that I could find but the High Cotton bar - but that's another review...

We will definitely be back to Charleston and the Harbourview Inn.

Room Tip: If you can swing it, get a 4th floor Harbourview King Suite. The view and sea breezes from your bal...

STAY HERE! My mom and I spent 4 nights at the Harbourview Inn for Mother's Day. WOW, just WOW. Attention to detail, service to the max. Iced tea in the afternoon, wine and cheese on Saturday night and milk and cookies at night. The rooftop breakfast every morning was a particularly nice touch. Sabrina at the front desk is a gem - so friendly, sweet and helpful. We had room facing the harbour with a balcony. Definitely get one of these rooms. I'm in love with Charleston and will be bringing my husband back and we'll be sure to stay at the Harbourview Inn.

Room Tip: One of the 400 rooms facing the harbour - worth the extra money.

My friend and I spent a night here in a 2-queen bed room and we were so pleasantly surprised. The beds were heavenly, and the bathroom was pristine and had plenty of counter space for two women. A free light breakfast is included, and you can have it in your room, on the rooftop patio, or in the atrium lobby. There is even a low-carb breakfast. There is complimentary wine and cheese at happy hour, and cookies in the atrium around 9 pm. In the late afternoon, they have big glass urns of orange or lemon infused ice water, which is very refreshing. It is across the street from a waterfront park, and in walking distance to Charlotte's indoor marketplace, rainbow row houses, and a fun waterfront restaurant, Fleet Landing. Also plenty of opportunity to run/walk along the waterfront on a wide paved sidewalk.

We stayed here on recommendation from a friend and really loved the location and the service. I would have loved a full service bar and gym, but we were able to go for runs and find plenty of places to have a nice cocktail around the hotel. I would recommend it highly for visitors and definitely those with kids. Breakfast daily was a huge plus!

We picked this hotel via Expedia and we clearly completely missed the fact it has no bar or restaurant, the location was excellent right on the coast in the quaint area of Charleston.

The service was very good and the staff were very informative, answered questions knew the local area, offered very good advice apart from the bar recommendation which was the worst bar I have been in for s long time.

Here are the ah ha moments, where is the bar ? We do not have one, can we e dinner after a long trip up from Captiva, w do not have a restaurant but have book of recommendations.

So I ask myself value for money not sure it was pricy for a hotel that had missing a amenities but th location could not be beaten, just shows I should pay more attention when booking

Room Tip: Chose away from lists and not a firs floor room the noise from the street drifts up at all times day...
